DEBOER
They went a long stretch of the year with the highest PDO in decades. Decent team, but they had the look of a pretender.Wow the Capitals are pure garbage how did they ever get 111 points in the east?
Well they are certainly looking like a pretender in this series! They went a long stretch of the year with the highest PDO in decades. Decent team, but they had the look of a pretender.
The there was a reason why at the end of December everyone was excited about the Devils. They were right there with both teams and had won or tied the season series with both. And then everything went to hell.NJ was 2-1-1 against the Caps.
There would for sure be feelings of regret if we didn't get hit by the injury bug big time late in the season. There was a large period of time where we were mostly healthy and our play declined massively. The injuries pretty much absolved the regret feelings because even if we were still rolling along, there's no way we would of overcame all those injuries. The there was a reason why at the end of December everyone was excited about the Devils. I feel we are going to look back at this season with regret. This should have been a contention season.

It's nuts how poorly the Capitals are playing.

I don’t think they were ever healthy post Christmas. It was about that time I think a lot of the depth guys (which was never good) started playing through stuff. Plus Luke who apparently was playing through stuff all year hit a wall. Then you had the virus hit the team and when they recovered the real injuries hit starting with Nico, Jonas and Markstrom. There would for sure be feelings of regret if we didn't get hit by the injury bug big time late in the season. They haven’t even been competitive down there, even we with our 1-14 playoff record in Raleigh played two one goal games thereCarolina is a different team home and road. Caps blew their chance by losing Game 1.
The catastrophic injuries hadn’t hit yet. But they weren’t healthy IMO. I think some guys were playing through stuff (leading to the bottom 6 falling off the planet) and then you had the 2 weeks of the virus going through the team. Probably would have righted itself, but then the injuries hit.I’ll never be able to figure out how we looked like a legit cup contender at Christmas break but fall off to be one of the worst teams in the league after . It wasn’t just injuries . We were healthy when our play started to decline . I think it was the bottom 6 just fell off the face of the planet and contributed nothing

Edit: I want to say in the Rangers game pre-Christmas Haula blocked a shot and limped off and basically wasn’t the same player after that. He played for about 2 more weeks before leaving the lineup.
We all agree Carolina will do its usual disappearing job eventually? It happens either against the Rangers or in the ECF
