You can’t argue that the puck off the skate had “nothing to do with it.” The defenseman put it in. He was the immediate cause of the goal. The defenseman scored the goal. Ratananen’s backhand was angled away from the goal line and would have gone to the opposite side face off circle if the dumb ass defenseman had not kicked the puck in.Blackwood was so far to the other side of the net the puck going off the skate had nothing to do with that goal being scored.
That said, shit happens. You can also legitimately criticize Blackwood for overcommitting on plays, after reacting too late (which causes the over committing late reaction) . . . He was late to react and get back across the crease on the game winning power play goal too.
Blackwood’s anticipation of plays, of where the puck is going to go, even his awareness of where the puck is sometimes, has always been a vulnerability.
