Blackwood was so far to the other side of the net the puck going off the skate had nothing to do with that goal being scored.

You can’t argue that the puck off the skate had “nothing to do with it.” The defenseman put it in. He was the immediate cause of the goal. The defenseman scored the goal. Ratananen’s backhand was angled away from the goal line and would have gone to the opposite side face off circle if the dumb ass defenseman had not kicked the puck in.

That said, shit happens. You can also legitimately criticize Blackwood for overcommitting on plays, after reacting too late (which causes the over committing late reaction) . . . He was late to react and get back across the crease on the game winning power play goal too.

Blackwood’s anticipation of plays, of where the puck is going to go, even his awareness of where the puck is sometimes, has always been a vulnerability.

Approximate current Cup odds are badly mispriced imo.

Dallas is +550 and roughly even with Edmonton. Dallas should be the obvious favorite out of the West. Doesn't mean they get there, but they should have best odds. Pickard looks like a spaz in net, the wheels will fall off eventually (+ no Ekholm).

Canes at +450 is lighting money on fire. No clue how Caps are a distant +1000. Books (and much of HF) greatly overvaluing this Canes team imo, but we'll see. Canes were effectively sellers this year. Their biggest move(s) involved getting future assets > value of what they received this year. Whatever goaltending or downright bad if Andersen misses time. Whatever roster in comparison to real contenders: FLA (duh), TOR (but FLA is trouble), WSH (assuming Protas isn't a shell of himself).

Fair enough on the defenseman putting it in. But I still think he deserves criticism as he was on the other side of the net and nowhere near the open side. So it’s not one of the wraparound goals where the goalie was there, but it just goes off a skate and in.

What if they get bodies back? I’d think they could torch them with the undermanned lineup.

If they get Heiskanen back that would help a whole lot. Same with Robertson.

I’m normally higher on Edmonton than most, but I’m really skeptical of their goaltending. But at least they took the net away from Skinner. Pickard was bad, but Skinner was going to give the series away for them.

I think they could go back to Skinner again if Pickard falls apart. But I’ve been saying this entire year that I’m not at all sure that Skinner is any better than Pickard.

Edmonton has great forwards but I’m not sure about that defensive depth or the goalies. If Dallas has Heiskanen and Robertson I expect they will be a tough out.

Last night feels their version of our Adam Henrique Game 7 OT winner v Panthers. DeBoer said they're gonna get Robertson and Miro back. There's also no way I can see them losing to Calvin Pickard in the West Final if both get there. Oettinger HAS to out duel Pickard. I really do think it's Dallas's year.

I'll throw a few bucks on Dallas winning the West and the Cup soon. I think this launches them into the Final like the Henrique goal v FLA did to us in 2012. Canes/Caps winner will get smoked by the Atlantic winner, not even a question about it. Canes struggled with a 25% AHL NJ squad, If Devils were healthy and they probably win in 6-7. Only good long shot I like are the Leafs at +950 if they somehow sneak by Florida because again they'd throttle the Caps/Canes winner

The hard truth is that people shit their pants anytime it happens to us because they know we don’t have a strong enough roster up and down the lineup, even though those same people won’t admit it when everyone is healthy.

I did take great pleasure of how much of a joke and how irrelevant they were in the post-Roy years, then even more in the post-Sakic years. And the joke of a Roy head coaching stint.
