OOT scoreboard 2025 playoff edition

I said it the other night, some guys have the mentality to win titles and some don't. Marty was like that, he'd give up a shitty ass goal and come back with 5-10 saves in a row. People can shit on Binnington for his regular seasons but he's probably the best big stakes goalie outside of Igor/Vasy in the sport. His 2019 Cup run, 4 nations stoning the US in OT before McJesus won it. Helly just doesn't have it when it comes to the playoffs.

Hellebuyck is definitely salvageable. He's too talented and it's not like he's never been good in the playoffs. His first playoff run he went to the WCF with a .922. His first 4 playoff runs he played 35 games with a .921. Last 3 years 16 games with a .861. He hasn't won a Cup or went to 2 finals like Fleury did but it's reminiscent of Fleury. Get Hellebuyck the help he needs

He has been beaten and embarassed short side so he was giving nothing to shoot at there. Unfortunately he gave a lot to shoot at on the far side. He was also deep in the net and if he was expecting a body save he didn’t come out at all on the angle. He never moved on the shot.

Back breaking goal. And horrible turn over at the other teams blue line led to the rush. I didn’t see who the forward was but horrible turnover.
It was future Devils forward Nikolaj Ehlers.

No way these are real?

They've gotta be those AI generated songs and videos?

I'd say 70-75% of the position is mental, it's such a brutal position. Toughest in sports imo. You're out there on an island from your bench the entirety of the game. You give up a bad goal at home and a chorus of boo's fill the arena. Then if you're on the road, even louder jeers. I mentioned Marty's mental and it's actually insane how he was as a goalie. The 2003 Cup Final series is what every goalie who struggles on the mental side should watch at least once or maybe 20 times because it still astounds me that Marty had 3 shutouts in that series after the goals he gave up in Anaheim.

It's Winnipeg, not much else to do there. One of the worst cities I've ever visited and I've been to a lot and I'll never go back unless the Devils can clinch a cup win there. Shocking they even ever got a team back to begin with.

I thought the only really bad goals he allowed in Anaheim were the stupid goal in game 3. I don't even remember who scored it. Was it Ozolinsh? We all remember it, even if we don't remember who scored it.

And most won't agree with me, but I didn't really like the ''Off the floor! On the board!'' goal that sailed over his glove from Paul Kariya in game 6. It was a really good shot though. And it wasn't from some schlub defenseman like Ozolinsh or Salei.

I think I didn't like the OT winning goal in game 3 by Ruslan Salei. I can't completely remember it, but I think it came off a faceoff and was from wayyyyy downtown.

I can't with these commentators saying every save is an amazing save that Helle makes, when they are just routine saves

Get him out of Canada that’s what he needs

The Jets with these dud first rounds the last 3 years made me think of the late 90s Devils losses to bottom seed teams.

Then I remembered that I'm breaking my own rule, which I used to bitch about people claiming this team and that team (with no real playoff success to speak of) were reminiscent of the old Devils teams. I used to see that comparison with the Hitchcock era, pre-cup Blues teams of 2012-2016 and it would piss me off.

And the Jets would fall under that. The late 90s Devils had a cup win in 95 with about half of that team, then won the cup in 2000 with a lot of that team, as well as getting to the 2001 finals.
