Main board: "If Rempe was 6'2 it wouldn't be a penalty"
If he were 6'2 he'd be playing for the Tuscaloosa Fire Antz
My Rangers fan friend used this exact excuse on me, that it would have hit him in the back if he were smaller. She also said that he got skills coached to him by Kreider and hung out with Jonathan Quick’s son in the offseason. I mean, Tony Soprano loved the ducks in his pond, but his job was still killing people.
I am so goddamn sick and tired of being gaslit by Rangers fans about a player whose only role in the NHL is to commit serious harm to opponents. I couldn’t give less of a f*** if this isn’t how he plays in Hartford. His role down there is to be more skilled. His role in the NHL is to do what we’ve seen from him in almost a quarter of his career games played. This is who he is and it’s not going to change.
If he played for a team other than the Rangers or Bruins, he wouldn’t have seen the light of day after his second offense, at most.
He’s a kid. He’s being manipulated and all he knows is this is his only chance to have a career. It’s a form of child abuse in my view. I’m all for MacDermid pummeling him as a lesson. Preferably more than once. But the guys who really need the beating are the alleged grownups who have so little respect for the players and the game they send an impressionable kid out there to get CTE knowing he’s just going to try to hurt someone and that he lacks the skill to do so within the rules.
The only thing that friend of mine said that I agreed with is that this is more on management and coaching than the player himself. But because of who the Rangers are and where they play, it’s just so cute and quirky that he got a fight in his first second of playing in the NHL. They’re taking advantage of Rempe and the media narrative. It’s disgusting.
