The whole abrupt Gorton/JD to Drury transition of power seemed like some sort of hostile takeover at the time. The Rangers hired JD two years before, who had a clause in his contract with Columbus that he could leave specifically for the Rangers. He came in during the middle of the “Retool” or a year after it, but the same offseason they wound up signing Panarin.

And both are instantly zapped for this younger executive and former player, who actually had his career ended by being bought out by them. I don’t know if that was a power struggle between Drury and JD Gorton that was won by Drury or what.

He just seems like a massive dick. Like sure the Goodrow/Trouba stuff made sense from a hockey perspective in the summer but going behind a beloved players back to force him out after he used his protection to block a deal and then also trying to deal the captain back to back is a dick move. Sending out the memo without even talking to the players about it first is a dick move. The way he treated foreign teenagers that were top 10 picks in Hartford with Kravtsov and Andersson was him being a massive dick. He just seems like a piece of shit.

But but he won a cup on a stacked Avs roster in 2001 (sorry for the PTSD for older Devils fans) !!!!!!!!

Yeah there are ways to conduct business that is professional and he doesn't do that.

I forgot he was on that team for a minute there. I’m trying to think if he was a rookie the season before that or if that was his third year in the league.

He didn’t stick around long enough and was sent to Calgary after just one more season there, and then eventually Buffalo.

Actually, I think it’s Tanguay that I’m thinking of who was the rookie in 99-00. I believe Drury won the Calder the year before Gomez, which would have been 98-99

The President and GM both individually getting fired, but the assistant GM getting the job immediately certainly seems like a knife in the back.

He’s a winner at every level!!!

Don’t forget that Little League World Series win when he was 12. Drury only knows winning. Eats a big bowl of winning every morning.
Oh shit! I forgot all about that! That was a deep memory. I used to follow prospects a lot more back when Drury was breaking into the over 25 years ago, and I do remember him winning the little league World Series and even throwing out the first pitch at a World Series game when he was a kid.

IIRC the story was that JD/Gorton didn't want to overreact to the Wilson shit while Dolan did. So Dolan kicked them to the curb for Drury.

I’m sure a Ranger will mosey on over to the Blue’s net at some point.

All the big names Rangers really stepping up. Go Jonny Brodzinski.
