This current Patrick Roy head coaching stint is almost looking waayyyyyy too reminiscent of the Doug Weight experiment as head coach with the Islanders. It looks like it might play out the same way.

Weight took over for the fired Jack Capuano in the second half of the 16-17 season. The Islanders make the playoffs that year, but have an absolute horrific season the next year. That gets Garth fired, along with Weight and enter Lou.

It's not known if Garth would have survived that season or not if the Maple Leafs didn't let go of Lou to promote Dubas.

Weight was already an Islanders assistant coach before that under Capuano, I'm pretty sure for quite some time. He may have even been the assistant GM, if I'm remembering right?

Isles are doing the worst thing you can do in sports: be utterly predictable by playing the same game over and over and over and over and over and over again. If you're gonna suck, at least find interesting ways to lose.

Still, Canes lose, Rags lose, overall I'll take it...just, geez, damn Caps.

We can just beat the Caps again tomorrow, take the points directly.

I was wrong on this. Another poster corrected me on the mainboard.

The Islanders did not make the playoffs in the season Weight took over for Capuano. I don't know why I thought they did.

Other than that, still feels the same and with the same outcome if they don't make the playoffs.

Really good case to be made for Grubauer being the worst goaltender in the league. Unless you’re gonna count a bunch of fringe third stringers that get called up. And Martin Jones isn’t even playing anywhere this year, so it’s gotta be Grubauer.

And it’s really damning against him because Daccord posts significantly better than league average numbers there the last two years, while Grubauer posts some league worst type of numbers behind the same team.

I don’t know who they have for a third string goalie, but it’s really time they waive him and buy him out after this season. Or at the very least buy him out after this year. They kind of need to with what they’re paying Daccord starting next year.

The first start give him in a while and the Sharks put up a touchdown and kick the extra point. Beyond pathetic.

I need to review this game. I really gotta see this.

Haven't watched a second or non-Devils hockey today. Not even a second of highlights.

San Jose's 3rd and 4th goals i think you are going to hate. 2nd goal was a bad rebound too.

Actually i think goal 1 might be the only one you maybe give him a break on. Goals 5, 6, and 7 are all not good.

OUCH!

Goals 3 and 7 were absolutely DREADFUL.

I think I'd say all but goals 1 and 2 were at least stoppable. Definitely everything from 3 on.

I think it was goal 6 that probably wasn't that bad, but it definitely wasn't a good one either. Same with goal 5. He played that one poorly. Goal 4 was one timed on a rolling puck, but I think he still looked bad on it. It's not like it was blasted over him.

I really hated goal 3 and 7. Goal 3 goes through his legs and hits him good and just deflects off of him. Same with goal 7 off of his glove.

I know I've given 5 stoppable goals in a game before. Probably several times. I don't think I've ever given 6.

holy crap lol

Might be a big nothing, but I only saw this because of the main board thread after the other night.

Could just be completely out of context. I'd like to see the video of him saying this.

I don't even think fiery Pat Burns would have said this publicly while working for Lou though.

The only guy I can remember take a shot like this was Herb Brooks. He quit and said the team needed to be torn down and rebuilt….the Devils then finished 2nd in the league, won the Cup the following season, and continued to be one of the best teams in the league for the next 20 years.
