When will the consensus finally give in that Washington actually isn't a bad team?

Spencer Carbery sure seems like a hell of a coach.
There are people who think they're not good? News to me. Their moves seemed like desperation to keep the window open, but they've worked out. And they are lowkey excellent at development. Plus, Cristall is lighting it up in Kelowna. He'll probably be a menace once he's ready.

The difference between how they've handled the latter days of Ovi and the Pens with Crosby and Malkin are stark.
So the Metro is absolutely insane

Figures

Do those 3 out of 4 pts still not count as good points? Asking for a friend (Dano)
At least it's four have and four have-nots, and we're firmly on the haves side.

The Caps are another example of a team everyone thought would be cooked by now 2-3 years ago that haven't been.

It was a big talking point on the board earlier when we played them this season. People were pissed that we didn't stomp them in the first game in Washington and then lost in the manner that we did in the home game.

They're clearly better than mostly anyone would have thought (myself included), and we're one of only 4 teams to hand them a loss in regulation. Doesn't appear that they're going away any time soon. You're spot on with their development. Hershey is one of the AHL teams that actually appears to take pride in success year-over-year.

Seattle continues to be woefully unskilled and insanely boring. They’re not slow, but they’re pretty bad.

Second goal on Grubauer was mind numbingly awful. Funny they threw Daccord out there against the Islanders, but put him up against the Rangers. He’s probably hoping he ends up with the Rangers next year after he’s bought out, so he can revive long dead career after what happened with Quick lol.

I remember when one of my favorite accounts on this website told me to not fear the Capitals. Lots of season left, but they keep winning. I'll say now that I don't want to see the Capitals, Panthers, or TBL in RD1. Give me the Rangers again.

The Capitals were horrific last year and should have finished with 80-85 points.

They may have actually had the best offseason this year.

They’re also not nearly as slow or a boring team like they were last year.

They're like us in the last years of Lou before the bottom well and truly fell out. The comedown is going to be rough on Long Island. Unfortunately for them, they're probably not going to be bad enough for born-and-raised Islanders fan Hagens.

It's not nearly as bad? We never had a Barzal/Horvat duo in its prime. Henrique/Parise was the closest but that duo ended before it got going. After 2013, it was Travis Zajac, Jagr, Cammalleri, Palmieri, Tyler Kennedy, AARP Scott Gomez. I can't call us equals. They're in a better spot.

Caps might come down to earth eventually. But they look good right now.
They are riding quite a shooting bender right now. I think they are at about 15% as a team when the league average is probably about 9%. Everything is going in. They will slow down at some point but they are playing well and have good coaching.

I remember when Utah was the flavor of the week during the first one of the season.

I never bought it much more than “they look better than last year”.

And yet they’re still 500 despite a poor start from Colorado and Nashville completely falling flat on their face with one of the worst records in the league.

The Blue Jackets blowing out the Bruins on home ice is probably enough for this to be Montgomery’s last game there.

I’d have to think this is probably it for him. I’m 60% sure he’s not the head coach the next game.

If Detroit loses to San Jose tonight then maybe Lalonde beats him to the unemployment line.

I actually wouldn’t be surprised to see Detroit making a coaching change if Montgomery is fired, just so that they can hire Montgomery.

That used to happen more frequently. Like when the Capitals fired Boudreau and the Ducks fired Carlyle a day or two later to hire Boudreau after he became available.

boston getting boatraced by the blue jackets.. got dang
Like I said, this is probably the straw that broke Montgomery’s back.

And Lalonde better be on the lookout next. I can see Detroit doing away with him once Montgomery becomes available.

I don’t really think anybody else is on the hot seat currently. THG on YouTube suggested the Hawks could look to fire Luke Richardson, just based on how little they’re scoring and Bedard not producing. But I think that’s a firing that’s probably more likely in the offseason if it happens at all.

Marty St. Louis could also be on the hot seat. I don’t think Montgomery would end up there. I’m not sure if Lalonde speaks French, but he has a French surname. That doesn’t mean he’s at all fluent in French.
