I don’t remember if I posted this on here or not, but it’s something that I’ve been thinking about for the last week or so.

The current Pens remind me of what happened to us in the final season of Lou. When the wheels finally fell off. We had been narrowly missing the playoffs for 2 years in a row. Pittsburgh missed even more narrowly the last years than we did before the wheels fell off.

But the wheels seem to have come off now.

I wonder if we see a coaching staff called the P. Bench before the season ends? :sarcasm::laugh:

Games in hand are great to have but you actually have to win those for them to mean anything. Devils are in the driver's seat being ahead of these teams with more condensed schedules coming up while they have some easier scheduling after playing 1/4th of their schedule in a month practically.

Utah all over Carolina in the third, 3-1. Kochetkov chased.

Edit: 4-1.

He looked like he got hurt too on the 2nd Utah goal, wonder if they rush Freddy back but I haven't seen an update there in regards to what's going on

7 minute powerplay courtesy of the NHL's total inability to even want to police players from instigating fights, so Carcone feels a brush from an opponent after he makes a big hit and assumes it's someone who wants to fight and just starts punching away.

But yeah, nice to see some of the division lose for once.

Instigator needs to go, it's such a dumb rule and it's not even cut/dry seeing some refs applying it in different ways

The instigator is a necessary rule, it just needs to be enforced, and it should be enforced with a one-game suspension. It is extremely selectively enforced because the league wishes to encourage fighting, which is stupid.

Not really. Utah and no business winning that game. We at least were keeping up with Florida and outplaying them at points.
Panthers had a good first ten minutes. Devils closed the 1st period with great special teams.

Panthers blitzed Devils in first half of second period.

Devils outplayed Panthers in second half of second period.

Devils played fantastic shutdown defense in the 3rd and created great scoring chances which led to a 3-1 lead.

Panthers blitzed the Devils in the final 3 mins with goalie pulled.

For folks who didn’t watch ^ Can’t assume things from just a highlight package. They played a solid road game against the best team in the league.

I'm not sure what you're meaning here but I said as much without less words.

In a sports league now that's absurdly bang bang and you can't tell what happened until a replay is shown, you don't need to go over and pummel a guys face in as it happened. You can just take someone's number and wait for something later on or even go after their stars (what we should've done with Rempe last year btw). The instigator is just a newer thing because guys are more prone to fighting guys ASAP as opposed to waiting like they did in the older days and getting revenge later which is arguably smarter since refs won't penalize that in most likelihood

Vasilevskiy won his 300th tonight. Fastest to do it. He is 30 years old.

Still not even halfway to Marty's total lol

I was thinking about it when I saw it.

"Thats a cool record. I feel like he's been in the league forever though"
"Maybe there just isn't much 300 game winners"
"Oh yea, goalies just don't play as much games anymore."

Its crazy that Vasi is at this pace age wise when he's had one of the highest workloads in the league during the past decade.

Starting to feel like Boston might be in real trouble; Ottawa and Buffalo are finally waking up a little bit, the Atlantic's pretty evenly matched by a lot of metrics. Islanders likely dropping off makes room for the Devils to return, but Boston slipping would give one of those young teams a chance to slip in. Will also help them that the Metro doesn't look primed to have five teams make it this year given how big a drop off in quality there is after Devils/Rags/Canes/Caps so far.

If the Bruins make the playoffs, it'll be because they stumbled their way in drunk. They don't look good and the Sens and Sabres have more upside.

The East is shaping up the same way it did last season - with a few stragglers getting in because there isn't enough good teams to fill out an 8 team playoff.

Last year the Islanders got 7th with 39 wins out of 82 and Capitals were 8th with 40 wins out of 82.
This year the Senators are currently in the last playoff spot and they have a worse point % than either of those teams from last year.

Also don't look now, but 1st in the conference and 2nd in the league...just ignore games played and point percentage
Even points percentage isn’t bad. 8th in the league on pts percentage. And if you calculate the baseball style standing with games back (assume a .500 record for games in hand) they are actually tied with Rangers and the Caps and a half game back of the Canes.

That assumption is doing a lot of heavy lifting.
