Holtz goal definitely looking like the softy of the night. Lindgren got it taken away behind his net one of the goals last night, which isn’t the first time that’s happened this year. Fleury had a similar play cause a goal against in that game.

But man, that wasn’t even a good shot. Goalie should have easily caught that one from Holtz.

If the Ottawa Travis Green’s keep on losing and the 10 other teams in the East stuck at NHL 500 can’t manage to break 500, the second wild card in the East might actually be a team that’s NHL 500 lol.

Because as it is every team above NHL 500 in the East are currently in a playoff spot.

Ottawa are 19-17-2 with 40 points in 38 games. Meaning the final wild card spot in the East is a team on pace for 86 points.

This must be why moneypuck has the Flyers at way too high of odds to make the playoffs. I understand that none of the 500 teams are out of it yet because everybody is 500 and the final wild card team is barely over it. I just don’t know why it’s the Flyers they give those odds to and not Pittsburgh.

Can you imagine a 84 point team making the playoffs? I don’t think that’s happened since the 90s.

The Wild in 2016 made the playoffs with 87 points. That was in the post-realignment / pre-expansion Western Conference that only had 14 teams.

That is the lowest total since the shootout and guaranteed winners were implemented. No team besides them have made the playoffs with sub-90 points since the shootout.

The lowest point total to make the playoffs since the loser point was implemented was the 2003 Islanders with 83 points.

Ottawa had their typical shit start, 8-11-1, and then went 11-2-1 since, bolstered by Ullmark’s hot run.

But Ullmark is gonna Ullmark, and by that I mean he’s out with a back injury.

Ullmark left their Dec 23 game vs the Oilers after the 1st with back tightness and has missed their next 4 games.

They lost that Oilers game and 3 of the other 4.

Anton Forsberg tweaked something before their Dec 14 Pens game and was out for 6 games. That meant the Sens got roll with their AHL goalies for a bit.

Forsberg did return to the net for tonight’s 0-4 listless loss to the Blues. Not sure that’s much of a plus.

Ottawa has been marching through a somewhat ridiculous stretch of road games, 9 straight between Dec 17 and Jan 7, because of the WJC. Probably not helping.

I was rooting for them but it’s probably another season of tripping over their dicks unless Ullmark gets healthy real fast.

At some point Ottawa will get out of its own way.

I remember both the Flyers and Canadiens making it with 88 points in 2010? I think?

But that’s the lowest in the East I can remember in a really long time. Had to be the lowest since the 03 Islanders you cited with 83 points.

As soon as i post this he’s probably gonna score, but Lafreniere’s skating is…. kinda embarrassing? Am i wrong?

That Holtz goal actually deflected off the defender’s leg right after the release. Goalie still got a piece of it, too.
