Albert won't do those games, he already has a better national job for hockey and does football weekly. My bet is someone like Gianone takes over, he already does the games when Rosen does football during the fall. Similar to what happened when Cangi would fill in for Doc for us and he became the full time after Doc moved on

Sam sounded emotional at the end, like it just hit him like a ton of bricks that these are his last games.

I've always liked Sam. A bit of a homer, but generally pretty fair.

Sam and Davidson were great. Shit like this in the day was fun.

Back to the Rags. That core is beyond Toxic. It wasn’t a Gallant problem. Lavi is as hard ass as a coach as it gets these days but that core is SOFT and Lavi can’t unload on them like he normally would on previous teams. Absolutely pathetic mentality in that locker room. They made it far because of their special teams and goaltender. Thats it

And for what its worth. Igor is still 7th in expected goals saved this season. The Dzone play in front of him is trash. Look at the goals tonight. Not sure which ones he was supposed to save

Any other goalie except maybe Hellebuyck would look bad. Pedestrian behind that team is excellent. Once Drury decided to turn Trouba into a pariah the rest of the players rebelled and they never quite returned.

They suck because no one can outlet worth a damn on their backend/defense. It was an issue in 2022 v TB, the Devils exposed it in 2023 to hell and then the Panthers destroyed them there in 2024. If you can't consistently break out the puck in this era of the NHL, you're beyond cooked. Thing is also, the defense they have now is locked for next year and that's without Miller being signed who's the only dman who has that skill set besides Fox on the backend. They're headed for a very long rebuild. I don't even want to mention how f***ing ass Mika is, how soft guys like Kreider are, I'm so glad JT Miller whined his way out of Vancouver for an even shitter situation.

A decade of elite goaltending in Lundqvist followed shortly after by another elite goalie in Shesterkin with no Cup to show for it at this point is something else.

If Drury smartens up he may be able to retool this summer and have the Rangers back in the playoffs next season but it will be a tough task. There is a lot of rot in that dressing room and a handful of their top guys are on the downswing and will be tough to move. The JT trade was so desperate. Dude played lights out for a bit then went back to sucking his thumb. Dude looked like a ghost on Saturday.

ESPN (for the most part) doesn’t let it’s talent moonlight on regional broadcasts and Bob calls more than just hockey for the network.

Sam’s replacement will be Kenny Albert. He currently calls games on the radio and his family obviously has a long association with the Rangers. They’ll have to name a secondary play by play caller to fill in for him though.

Yeah I can definitely see Kenny taking over.

At least I won't have to hear "It's a power-play goaal" anymore.

It will likely be Alex Faust, he has done the bulk of the games on radio that Kenny Albert hasn’t done this season. So he will replace him as the radio voice and be the backup on TV.

Love the Guess Who and Burton. I’m an old soul at heart. Went to Burton’s NYE/75th birthday bash in Winnipeg on NYE in 2022. He played at a theatre here that was named after him. Nice fun show. He still has some good pipes and energy for being in his mid to late seventies. Was funny. My friend and I were both early thirties and were surrounded by mostly grey hairs. Felt kinda out of place. Undun is probably my fav Who song.

Anyways back to the OOT. I’d have to imagine Lavi is a goner. Do we think the Rangers might bring Torts back? I wouldn’t put it past Drury

The bar for the playoffs is low in the East and there's two obvious weak teams that are going to make it this year as well as a Washington squad that is a bubble team masquerading as a Presidents' Trophy contender. I don't think it will be hard to get the Rangers back in the playoffs, but their time as a top team is probably done unless Shesterkin turns back into prime Hasek or one of their young guys breaks out into being a star.
