The bar for the playoffs is low in the East and there's two obvious weak teams that are going to make it this year as well as a Washington squad that is a bubble team masquerading as a Presidents' Trophy contender. I don't think it will be hard to get the Rangers back in the playoffs, but their time as a top team is probably done unless Shesterkin turns back into prime Hasek or one of their young guys breaks out into being a star.
I’m fascinated to see how Washington does. They’ve tailed off late. Just a top team going through the motions late in the season or is it a classic case of reverting to the mean? Their team shooting percentage seems unsustainable especially come playoff hockey. But they may get a wide open style Montreal team round 1. How I wish the Devils were healthier. The path through the East is there.
