Shooting a full percentage above league average. Probably even higher than that after this game with their 5 goals on 38 shots.
So what? They're scoring. I could care less if their S% is slightly high, they're scoring goals and have good rates. They're playing solid hockey and are beating good teams. They've been doing that for the last month.

You've convinced yourself that "bad", or "humpty" as you call them, teams (whatever those are in this league) cannot beat good teams, but it happens all the time. Bad teams can have good streaks, and the Habs have a good streak going on right now, regardless of this idea you have about them.

Montreal has been playing well during this stretch, better than us. Unlike us they are shooting well and have won 4 of their 5 games that have gone past regulation.

But yea it will be a tough game.

They’re overachieving. That’s the idea I have about them.

I’m sure most models would agree they are overachieving on this current stretch.

Some people jock every team on a hot streak.

The Red Wings just won like 8 of 10 or something.

Well that was worst case scenario. Lead over 9th place is down to 2.5 games. I think I will do a full playoff outlook later tonight…but Boston and Montreal games this week are critical. They drop both of those games a missing the playoffs will be on the table. Of course win both and everything is back to being fine.
9th is 8 pts back, 3 gms in hand. They have to win those games and then they will be .5 gms back

Devils simply just need to get back to their gm and they will stay above all of these teams.

Also, we really only care about CBJ and NYR for Metro 3. And we are still right there for Metro 2.

Yes, I don't disagree that they're overachieving, but it doesn't mean that they're not playing good hockey right now. They're definitely on a hot streak, they're playing better hockey than they should relative to their metrics.

You can be overachieving while playing good.

Stating that the Canadiens are playing good hockey for the last three weeks and that they are currently a tough opponent can’t be denied. It doesn’t matter if they were 0-30 before this stretch and then go 0-30 after this stretch. It doesn’t take away that they are good in this current stretch. Anyone playing them right now is in for a competitive gm, just like anyone playing against the wings or the jackets in their hot streaks were in for a competitive gm.

It would be a full game up on Montreal if they win all three games in hand. They would be a half-game up on Columbus, but CBJ are currently in the bubble.

Again win the next two games and this concern goes on the back corner. Loss them and then while they would still have the advantage things get worrisome. Split and it probably status quo going into Philly.

As for the broader discussion, I do think Montreal falls off. Rangers, Blue Jackets, Boston and Ottawa are your wild card race right now IMO.

I watched 90% of the game between the Rangers and Montreal. The Habs are playing well. They skated hard and had a clue about what to do with the puck. Quick had to make a number of good saves or the Rangers never get to OT. Suzuki Caufield and Laine are playing well for Montreal. Hutson is playing well and is very smart and dangerous with the puck on his stick. Their rookie goalie played well enough to win and especially in the clutch late in the game. If NJ can play three full periods against the Habs they can win but they can't play one period get frustrated and then play lethargic from the 10 minute mark of the second period. Of course, that's on Saturday, an eternity from now.

DD would be absolutely insufferable in this thread right now, but absolutely hilarious at the same time.

I could totally see him riding this Dobes goalie from Montreal, who is apparently only the 13th goalie in NHL history to start his career with 5 straight wins. He'd be talking him like he did with Andrew Hammond in 2015, though I'm pretty sure Dobes is like early 20s and not 28 or whatever Hammond was when he made his NHL debut.

He'd be praising the CBJ so much and asking why we chose Keefe over Evason lol.

This Sharks team is a complete JOKE.

Tank you f***in losers, tank!

Toffoli has to be so content with signing the rest of his career away for daily tee times starting in April the remainder of his playing days.

I can't believe we lost to this team twice in regulation. And I can't believe anybody has championed this current team. Not the future, but the present or near future.

Honest question. Why the intensely harsh criticism for a team that is still in their first steps of a complete rebuild? No one is expecting anything from them.

As for the rest of the gms. An Isles win would give NJ an extra cushion on Metro 3. And a Hawks win vs Canes would be nice but obviously a tough ask

Honest answer

I hope they’re bad forever. I can’t stand the organization. I hate them as much as @njdevils1982 hates Florida and Columbus. Some of it for personal reasons.

I hate seeing every other team get points from them and we get nothing.

I hate seeing them get jocked and praised, despite the fact that they’re still on pace for under 60 points. f*** them.

Knew it would already 1-0 CBJ as soon as I looked not 5 minutes in.

Pleasantly surprised by the Islanders winning.

Not at all surprised the Canes tied it. I think I was more surprised the Hawks ever led 2-0.

Really hate the Hawks as an organization too, but I think a lot of people can relate to that.

From the Kyle Beach scandal, the celebration and worship of a woman beater, Rocky Wirtz having a meltdown over being asked about Kyle Beach like it was some nothing incident.

I really detest that organization as well, I think a lot of us feel that way after everything that came out in 2022. I hate them more than the Sharks for humanitarian reasons.

But the Sharks mean nothing to me anymore after Ray no longer being the head athletic trainer.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard you out your Sharks source lol but I figured he’d been let go by your comments about it being personal with the Sharks earlier

Canes win in OT
Eh its ok. Jackets looking like shit is better anyways. All Devils have to do is outpace NYR and CBJ for the rest of the season and Metro 3 is a lock

Although, are we at the point where WC1 would be a better first round for us to avoid Canes? Lmao
