Shooting a full percentage above league average. Probably even higher than that after this game with their 5 goals on 38 shots.
So what? They're scoring. I could care less if their S% is slightly high, they're scoring goals and have good rates. They're playing solid hockey and are beating good teams. They've been doing that for the last month.

You've convinced yourself that "bad", or "humpty" as you call them, teams (whatever those are in this league) cannot beat good teams, but it happens all the time. Bad teams can have good streaks, and the Habs have a good streak going on right now, regardless of this idea you have about them.

Montreal has been playing well during this stretch, better than us. Unlike us they are shooting well and have won 4 of their 5 games that have gone past regulation.

But yea it will be a tough game.

They’re overachieving. That’s the idea I have about them.

I’m sure most models would agree they are overachieving on this current stretch.

Some people jock every team on a hot streak.

The Red Wings just won like 8 of 10 or something.

Well that was worst case scenario. Lead over 9th place is down to 2.5 games. I think I will do a full playoff outlook later tonight…but Boston and Montreal games this week are critical. They drop both of those games a missing the playoffs will be on the table. Of course win both and everything is back to being fine.
9th is 8 pts back, 3 gms in hand. They have to win those games and then they will be .5 gms back

Devils simply just need to get back to their gm and they will stay above all of these teams.

Also, we really only care about CBJ and NYR for Metro 3. And we are still right there for Metro 2.

Yes, I don't disagree that they're overachieving, but it doesn't mean that they're not playing good hockey right now. They're definitely on a hot streak, they're playing better hockey than they should relative to their metrics.

You can be overachieving while playing good.

Stating that the Canadiens are playing good hockey for the last three weeks and that they are currently a tough opponent can’t be denied. It doesn’t matter if they were 0-30 before this stretch and then go 0-30 after this stretch. It doesn’t take away that they are good in this current stretch. Anyone playing them right now is in for a competitive gm, just like anyone playing against the wings or the jackets in their hot streaks were in for a competitive gm.

It would be a full game up on Montreal if they win all three games in hand. They would be a half-game up on Columbus, but CBJ are currently in the bubble.

Again win the next two games and this concern goes on the back corner. Loss them and then while they would still have the advantage things get worrisome. Split and it probably status quo going into Philly.

As for the broader discussion, I do think Montreal falls off. Rangers, Blue Jackets, Boston and Ottawa are your wild card race right now IMO.
