whats the (modern) record for worst goal differential to make the playoffs?

Washington is -31 and in a DIVISIONAL spot, not even a WC spot lol

For context, the only teams with a WORSE goal differential than Washington this year are Montreal, Columbus, Anaheim, Chicago, and San Jose. Thats it.

Probably not even close to the record, when 16 out of 21 teams use to make the playoffs there were some terrible teams who got in with less than 30 wins, I'm sure there were terrible goals differentials too.

But -31 is amazing for today.

Washington wouldn't have the worst point total to make the postseason but unless someone above one of these teams in a given year was actually worse, they'd be the worst GD by a country mile.

Apparently there are three teams with a goal difference of -24 and below to make the playoffs since 2001, two of them before the post-lockout time frame here and the 2011-12 Panthers with a -24 exactly

There were people who wanted Sorokin to make it to UFA, and were bummed when he didn’t, and he slipped.

People just wanted a functional healthy NHL starter.

All these teams are mediocre at best to bad.

Flyers, Islanders, Red Wings, Capitals. I can't believe half of those SHIT teams are getting into the playoffs.

The Islanders winning is a massive help to the NYI’s playoff chances, they’re ahead of us too.

The Flyers falling out is hilarious but they aren’t the only team we’re chasing.

Wings are back in it with a win.

Not really seeing a window for us, as hilariously sad-assed as this playoff race is.
