This Reign team would look a lot different if Bjornfot, Anderson, and Clague were playing down there (where they arguably should be). Send Vilardi, JAD, and Grundstrom down while we're at it. Then give each forward 15 minutes and wach defenseman 20.

Madden - Vilardi - Kaliyev
Turcotte - Byfield - Kupari
Grundstrom - Thomas - Fagemo
Eyssimont - JAD - Dudas

Bjornfot - Clague
Anderson - Durzi
Hults - Strand

The Reign tonight looked like a funny car trying to navigate a road course. They’d go 100mph north and south but then bobble the puck or over skate something and they’d all have to readjust and head the other direction. It’s exciting but not a smart style to play.

Lots of mental mistakes on penalties. Byfields trip, Brinkley’s interference.

And the creativity they showed in the offensive end seemed to disappear once they got on the PP. Lots of standing around, zero moving. I’d love for us to be able to watch a PP where the forwards are in constant motion one year. Rather than the slow passing around the outside for a shot from the high slot or point.

Remember, this is a new head coach and system. Last season's Reign team started off really slow as they were also young (but not this young) then kicked ass until Viliardi and Mikey left for the big club. I expect similar results, but also, this is now a development focused squad, not systems focused. So I think we'll see a lot of tinkering of players in different roles as well.

With Grundstrom and Bjornfot both looking like future contributors, there isn't as much pressure on Durzi to turn into something. That being said, boy has he not looked good in preseason and the first 3 games. He was clearly the odd man out on the PP last night.

At one point, I believe the PP was Byfield, Turcotte, Madden, Kaliyev, and Durzi, and he kept missing passes, jumbling pucks, and just being a step behind the play. He fed Kaliyev 4 times in a row with absolutely no deception to the point where everyone in the arena knew it was coming 10 seconds before the pass came. Hell, let Madden run everything from the half-wall and put Brickley up top. He at least has a shot himself.

And yes, I know he's still young, but he's running out of time AND he's not a rookie in the A anymore.

Don't think you can blame just Durzi on not executing on those 5-3 PP we had. Plenty of blame to go around. The team just needs some chemistry, there is no excuse to have Madden, Arty and QB on a 5-3 and not score.

As far as Durzi goes, he's 22 with 1 year of AHL experiance ~40 games. Let him finish his ELC contact and at the end of next year if he can't break the roster then we should consider our options. He's fine staying in the AHL. He was never more than a#6, 2nd PP guy.

Durzi's 'problem' right now is he's being relied on to be more than he'll ever be.

It could be that Wrob is seeing how much Durzi can handle to see what his limits are. They're only 3 games in. The big problem is now that Clague is on the big club (and a much better prospect) and all the other PMDs in the organization of note are in Europe or Juniors. We're seeing now why Clague was the first planned call-up on D last season before he got injured.

Just saw highlights of the game and that last goal WTF was Villalta doing? Sheesh.

This team is young as hale and will only get better. Win or lose it's just fun to finally see the prospects playing together. Think about this, at one point in the future, we will see Turcotte, Byfield, Fagemo, Thomas, Kaliyev, Madden, Kupari , Bfoot, Faber and Power(yes I said Power ) in the lineup for our LA kings (being optimistic). It can only go up from here.

Durzi is 22 and he’s behind Clague and Anderson in his development. But this is his opportunity to step up and take advantage of extra playing time. As a RD, he’s blocked pretty hard on the Kings roster.

He’s signed until the end of next season, so this isn’t a make it or break it year. And there isn’t a prospect right behind him either.

I like how the baby kings don't want to give any hope to us. The hockey gods are still having their way with our franchise for 2014.

The problem I saw with Durzi is that he was simply making dreadful decisions with the puck. Quite a number of awful passes that probably worked for him in juniors. He kept trying to force passes through opponents which led to a series of turnovers and shorthanded opportunities for the Gulls.

Gaunce also looked pretty bad on the blueline.

Grundstrom would have to clear waivers and that's not happening

Gaunce was brutal, he killed a number of plays all by himself. I wasn't impressed.

I'm hoping we see Hults in the lineup tonight. I remember Hoven or Bernstein mentioning something about why he wasn't in the lineup, but I honestly can't remember what they said.
