Stamkos deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as any and all all-time players when it comes to one timers. Otherwise he is quite the prize pony. He is alright and good at other stuff but my God is he freaking elite the big blast

Someone who's only good at one timers and below average at everything else gets 64 assists?

Tomas Holmstrom in front of your net
I came in here to say Holmstrom. Seeing as he's taken, I'll put Teemu Pulkkinen as an interesting example of a failed attempt at this. Genuinely, he is a top 5 or 10 power shooter that I've seen. His accuracy wasn't quite there and the rest of his game was awful so he fizzled out.

Miles Wood is probably the fastest straight line skater in the NHL but doesn't particularly look good while doing, has non-existent hands, and has rocks in his head sometimes

There were a couple guys that were great shooters and scorers that were pretty weak elsewhere.

Marek Svatos comes to mind from 2005.

Alex Semin is another.

Craig Adams and getting coffee for Dan Bylsma.
 his CWC/60 (coffee with coach per 60) is legendary.

Man, what a weird move for a guy that had been around as long as him and who already had relationship issues with star players.

Of current players, Hoffman and Victor Olofsson can shoot the emblem off the puck but that's about it.
Beat me to it. One of the nicest shots I've ever seen but everything else is suspect. Can't create, average skater, OK hands, barely has time in even strength to use his shot etc.

Really a PP specialist but I suspect he'll do great in Vegas if he's used that way.

Yeah, if there is someone to transition the puck up the ice and find him when he's settled into soft coverage areas where he can rip it, he could do some quality things again. Based on history... that would be Eichel. I expect at least 20 out of Vic in that situation if not more.

He was probably trying to parlay it into a coaching gig but sanity was finally somewhat restored when Bylsma was fired half a decade too late.

Now he has to slave away managing hedge funds. Everything about that guy screamed pompous d-bag. It’s no wonder he was known as the locker room narc.

Dan Girardi...Blocking shots and getting in the lane.

Everything else about his game was pretty poor or below average from a skill standpoint, skating, passing/puck moving, offensive ability, hockey sense, etc.

But was a pretty good player for a bit and had a hell of a career for someone of his raw skill and ability.

He had high end hockey sense, which is why he had the positional integrity to eat those shots in the first place...but otherwise, yeah, he was a product of (or contributor to) the style of play that DPE 2.0 brought...

Tony Salmelainen had good top speed and terrific acceleration, but none of his non-skating skills were NHL-caliber

Teemu Pulkkinen and Pavel Brendl's incredible shooting ability were the only reason either player played in the NHL as long as they did.

Matt Lombardi is sort of a one-trick pony. One of the fastest skaters in the league, but he was also generational at making the ladies (and the occasional guy) swoon and his defensive play was solid.

Phil Kessel can be a good playmaker at times, but his snap/wrist shot is really his his one trick. I'd love to see the percentage of his career goals that were scored that way.

Erik Christensen and shootouts.

Christensen was hand-tailored for the shootout. He legit had world-class skill with the puck on his stick, in a vacuum.

He wasn't a good player in-game, because he wasn't a great skater, didn't process the game well, and didn't have the strength to handle any of the physical aspect of the game, but if you just put the puck on his stick with nothing around him, he was Patrick Kane.

Carl Hagelin also wasn't really good at anything, to be honest. He actually was a very good player in his day because he was faster than everyone else and played with a ton of grit, but literally all he could do was skate fast.
Was coming to say EC, but for passing. Unreal passer. Money in the shootout but I wasn’t really counting that.

For Hagelin, a bit unfair in that he was smart without the puck and very positionally aware. He was ok at most other aspects of the game

On the topic of incredibly pure north-south speed players:

Matt Lombardi

Wicked fast. But that's it.

Honorable mention: Kasperi Kapanen
