Even though it's probably about 80 years old now, I still enjoy some of the old Christmas movies and music.

This scene with Danny Kaye and Bing Crosby from White Christmas, impersonating a couple sister gals they've been trying to hustle, still cracks me up. They don't make 'em like that anymore.

Milwaukee Admirals getting crushed on the play so far but Matt Murray from St. Albert going 30 for 30 so far. Spenser Martin on the Wolves on face 13 shots but has let in 2 of them.

So in the end Spenser stops 14/18.
The Wolves absolutely dominate the game and go so hard to break the goose egg. Matt Murray of the Admirals stop s 43/44. A .977 save percentage.

Looks like Mitch Korn was right.

I hope this is the correct topic to post this, i assume it is because it will be offtopic for everything else.

I listened to a finnish podcast published day after xmas with Kurri as a guest. Maybe you want to hear what he said maybe not, posting anyway.

First of all every guest in the podcast is asked for their all time lineup with the players they have played, Jari went with:

Kurri Gretzky Tikkanen
Coffey Ruotsalainen
Fuhr

There is a line that you could put me in the 2nd line and still win games.

Another tidbit from the "interview" was that Gretzky never wanted to leave Edmonton (and the bullshit rumors about his wife being the reason they went to Los Angeles is not true). Kurri also said that Gretzky was given an opportunity to back out of the trade just before the press conference that i assume you all have seen, and he said "it's too far gone it's already done we can't call it off now".

Well that's all, just wanted to tell you what Kurri said in the podcast.

For sure he never wanted to leave Edmonchuk, but Pocklington basically poisoned the waters by calling him a "depreciating asset", and losing his shorts in all of his other businesses, so he knew it was time to go.

There was some rumors at least at the time of some cash changing hands under the table, not sure how reliable those are. But what Kurri said and how he said it, #99 was not happy about leaving is all im saying.

Yup. BTW, love the avatar. One of my favs of Gordie. The man was a living beast, and could have entered a few Mr. Olympia contests and did well. No one f***ed with Mr. Howe. And if you ever touched his boys, you were a dead man.

That old bag of bones believed in revenge.
Anyways if you have a chance maybe take a look at the two primary apples by Kakko for Seattle against Utah Powder Puffs last night. Elite level passing.

I own one authentic hockey jersey and it’s a red #9. Signed and authenticated as well. My all time fave. Saw him play live once in the NHL in 1980 when he came to Nortlands with the Whalers. 9 v 99. Your post prompted me to dig the photos out of a box that I have of that game. Great memories.

Hopefully it wasn't a long walk, stay warm.
At -43 10m's is a long walk.

Winter use to be no big deal but each year I like it less. I am now old and soft. New Years Day we had green grass and then I spent 2 hours yesterday shoveling snow and may be doing the same thing tomorrow thanks to the wonder of snow squalls. It completely changes ones outlook.

When you eventually retire there's a condo on Maui for you to spend some time in while the deep freeze is on at home!

My wife retired in September. I am done at the end of May or earlier!!!. She has been to Oahu, Hawaii and Kauai but never Maui so it is absolutely on our list. I still have my holidays for this year so it may even be this winter!!!

As I write this I can see out the window where a serious squall is dumping snow at a very steady rate. Looks like there will be at least an hour of shoveling after dinner tonight.

I agree, -43 is too cold but I'm getting softer by the winter. I wouldn't be walking anywhere in those temps I had to.

Shoveling has been pissing me off for a few years now.

Congratulations to your wife, and congratulations to you on a well earned retirement! It would be awesome if you guys could make it down, unfortunately you never got to see Lahaina in all its glory before the fire but there are still many sites to see!

Thanks Bryan, it is much appreciated. I have loved my job but it has changed so much the last few years that I won't miss much of it. I can still do my research and teach if and when I want but I won't have to put up with the incredible bureaucracy that has creeped in over the last decade anymore.

I actually did see Lahaina in the 80's. I spent a week in Kihei in the spiring of 1986. I loved Lahaina. Such a rich history. That huge Banyan tree was also amazing. I gather that they are trying to nurse it back.

Such a tragedy that fire was. How is the Island doing now?

Growing up in Edmonton We did have our share of blizzards of course. Blowing snow can be a pain for sure. But until I came out here I never experienced anything quite like a significant snow squall. It can go from clear sky to complete white out is minutes and the amount of snow that can fall is insane. Moreover, you might travel a couple of kilometers and nothing.

I am glad that you were able to see it! Yes some of the tree died but there are parts that are coming back to life. Overall it is a cluster, massive, massive rents because of a limited supply of rentals and normal families having to compete financially against FEMA. The cleanup is done in the residential areas and there are homes being rebuilt but there are many zoning issues as it was an old neighborhood that was not up to current codes, etc. Sadly it will never be the same. The one potential positive from the aftermath would be if Moku'ula returns. Mokuʻula - Wikipedia It would be the return of a significant cultural site that no one living has been able to see in all its glory.

I used to hear the stories about how the snow was "up to my waist" and "I walked 2 miles to school." Then I realized that they were speaking about when they were 6 years old, and the snow for an adult came up to the top of their boots, and the walk was actually 2 blocks, which would seem like a couple miles to little legs.
