Why are you putting yourself in such an awkward spot? Does that come with being a Leafs fan? You don't have to distort things just because people don't have fireworks everytime they mention your players in a sentence.

nah you kinda did it to yourself when you argued palat is better at hockey because Auston hasnt played in the NHL yet.

keep thinking Palat would be the best player on the leafs, despite the fact he isnt. lets revisit halfway through the season when the lame excuse of "he hasnt even played a game yet!" can't be used to devalue a player

also Hossa? c'mon! When Hossa was 25, he was a 4 time 30+ goal scorer, one of which was 45 (more than palats points last year).

Another one who forgot about Drej. You don't seem to have a real idea how good Palat is. Forwards with elite even strength numbers and getting votes in the Selke race don't grow on trees.

Here is the list of the most productive 5v5 players over the past 3 seasons, when Palat entered the league. One can say that Drej is in a pretty good company. Still don't need a player of this caliber, huh ?

for the cost bolts fans expect? hell no.

Toronto needs D. We have a glut of young forwards coming up, and some here think its a good idea to move Rielly for Palat?
nope.

leafs moving significant assets for a winger make no sense, and they arent helping tampa out of their cap hell.

That's why I said Hossa-lite. Never did I say he's as good. Good job comparing stats from two completely different eras though.

I think you keep quoting the wrong guy. I NEVER EVER said Palat would be the best player on the Leafs but please feel free to keep running with horse blinders on.

What I said was that I would be disappointed if Matthews didn't turn out to be a better player or hockey development would be in a sad state.

Palat had 4 more points than Rielly last year...on a powerhouse tampa team....as a forward.

seriously LOL at the notion that Palat>Rielly
Yeah 4 more points and 20 less games ... nah.

Palat is young yet elite two-way 60+ pts playmaking winger. The "Hossa-lite" description fits him quite good and although he doesn't have Hossa's goal scoring ability, he's incredibly valuable to his team. Tampa won't give him away unless there's something really good in return, something much better than current Rielly.

If Steve Yzerman can find a way to keep Killorn, Palat and Johnson along with re-signing Stamkos, Killorn and Namestnikov, and when he resigns Kucherov, Yzerman should be awarded GM of the year if he can pull off all these moves and if Tampa can make a deep playoff run this season.

Yzerman would have my vote as GM of the year.

If he doesn't play for the leafs he is no good! Duh.

It's a pretty embarrassing thread for said poster. The comment about barely having more points than Reilly is quality stuff.

What's wrong with the majority of the Leafs fans?

They believe the rest of the hockey world undervalues their players thanks to an anti-Leaf bias, so they go way, way overboard while defending them. So there's a backlash, which actually does lead to an anti-Leaf bias, and fans of other teams to undervalue their players. Which leads Leaf fans to way, way, way, WAY overvalue their own players. It's a vicious cycle.

Three years ago, you'd have thought Jake Gardiner was the next Bobby Orr.

There is absolutely 0 chance this happens. Yzerman understands asset management and plenty of teams will pay for a player like Palat. He's underrated on hf.

If it's down to Killorn or Palat whom Yzerman must protect, He'll go with Palat over Killorn. I could see Vegas taking Killorn at the expansion draft he would be pretty sweet for them.

As great as Palat is, why would Toronto pay for a winger right now? They have too many forwards as it is. Plus there are two top RHD that are rumoured to be available, Trouba and Shattenkirk, and that is their biggest organizational need.

young core forwards rarely get traded

and what does TML have to really tempt Stevie Y after Matthews?

.. and i mean really, i know you could bundle a few high expectation prospects or $4M replacements (JVR, Kadri) , but a contender won't likely bust up their top 6 for that

Rielly is a good player and Palat is a good player, but to say Rielly isn't enough value for Palat is just silly as all hell. Especially when you tie it to the present and ignore that a player's value also comes from their anticipated future value. The first overall pick would be worthless as an asset if this weren't the case. Then you take it one step further and say Palat would bring in something MUCH BETTER. Let's try to be objective here.

Ignoring team needs and going off pure value as an asset, Rielly - a former top 5 pick with top pairing potential as soon as this coming year (and locked into a great contract - has more value than Palat. That's indisputable. Potential top pairing D > current 60 point winger, unless that winger has a lot higher to go with his ceiling.

Great player, no need for the Leafs to target him though. There are 3 top pairing D without a contract, 2 of which are RHD. If Leafs are giving up assets then that is what they're targeting.

Young top pairing D are the most valuable assets in the league right now (especially so if they are RH which Rielly is not).

Man Leafs fans are nuts

What's wrong with the majority of the Leafs fans?

> Be Leafs
> Be built around a winger
> Team is terrible despite the winger being very good
> Fans and media say "You can't build around a winger"
> Trade winger and rebuild
> Team is being around C and D
> Fans say "How about you trade your best D/best prospects for a winger"
> Leaf fans say no, Wing is our deepest position, we are set for forwards, and need RHD. Palat is good but a luxury for the prize it costs
> LOL what is wrong with Leaf fans not gutting their team for a winger!!

What is wrong with most of HF?
