I would be looking at Tyler Johnson, if he has a good season, the lightning have some big decisions to make in the next 2 years and he might shake lose and he could look real good behind Mathews as the #2 centre.

Palat is very likely Jon Cooper's favorite player. Can't see him moving.

Leafs best assets are really young players that Tampa has less need for as a contender.

Leafs shouldn't be using these assets to acquire older players considering they're not contending right now.

Seems like a bad idea all around.

Wouldn't surprise me if he's not an expansion draft casualty.

That situation wouldn't surprise me at all. To extrapolate on that point, I don't think it's unreasonable to think he'll be a career Lightning player.

Meaning that i think Yzerman leaves him un-protected and could see Vegas taking him.

Now I'm confused... you're contradicting yourself. If you think he is left exposed and gets picked, then you mean to say "it would surprise you if he's not an expansion draft casualty."

In my opinion, that is one of the dumbest moves Yzerman could possibly make. After Hedman and Kucherov, there isn't a single player more valuable to the team than Palat.

I think the Lightning did the killorn deal setting Vegas up to draft killorn and take him.

Yes. Vegas appreciates the security of having a very strong middle six guy on a long term deal. That's probably why there was little hesitation to do the deal: Yzerman knew that he can fit everyone under the cap this season, and Killorn would be off the books by the time Hedman, Palat etc. get their new deals.

I'm fully expecting Tampa to go hard after the cup this year. Palat is not going anywhere, as he couldn't be replaced.

Ya he probably would but we already have Nylander and Kadri so that is pretty pointless

Then Yzerman should be instantly fired. Not going to happen. In the worst case scenario, Palat could be traded for a juicy return because they need to retain Johnson for center depth, but losing one of the best 2-way wingers in the game for free ? No.
