On this Remembrance Day the Habs Remembered what It Feels Like to Win A Game Habs Beat Sabres

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Primeau has issues with shots to the glove side, seems to misjudge them and gets burned too often.

Matheson is brutal and whatever fluke run he was on last season hasn't carried over into this year.

What's with the Xhekaj hate Marty? Everyone else gets lots of rope so why not AX?

Dach is not likely to be part of the future in Montreal, not a great top 6 player.

Suzuki is not overweight or slow like some here were suggesting.
The f***?

Dach was very good today and looked awesome the last two years until injury. Maybe hold the phone there a bit. My goodness.

Boggles my mind you trash on Dach and pump the tires on Arber Xhekaj. 🤣😂🤣😂

Looking at the statlines, I can see some positives here:
-Slaf even on his +/- is nice to see
-We've got quite a few players floating at 0.5ppg, and that's without playing lights out. There's a reasonable chance Dach can improve his production, and maybe Anderson and Gallagher will keep at it and score 20+. Even with those modest numbers that's a decent secondary scoring group, so long as the 1st line plays to their own expected level.
-The points will come for newhook, who is still averaging 20.5gpg. He's working hard and I think as the season goes on he'll be in the right chair. If he can join the secondary scorers that's great for the campaign.
-Heineman has yet to add himself to the secondary scoring players I highlighted, but could easily break out with that shot. I am keeping my expectations low but I think he will be a good overall contributor this year outside his production.
-Any points or drawing of quality opposition Laine generates upon his return will help the secondary scoring.

Did Martin read this board for today?
finally put back Slaf with Suzuki.
5 points for ''worst captain in habs history'' for some people here
Matheson stats padding
Dach stats padding

Habs need to do much better than this , we won because Buffalo goalies were somehow even worse than Primeau. Gotta learn to play defensively and be more aggro on the puck instead of being passive

… That is why he is not scoring this season….
He actually started scoring last year when he stopped fulling taping.

His shooting percentage is at 5%-6%. He finished last season above 13%. Should fix itself once they can get the cycle going better and not everyone is just trying to get Caufield to score.

I have been hard on Anderson for a couple of years but he has been decent so far this season. 8 points in 16 games but what I like is he has been more consistent and noticeable. Nice goal today.
Him, especially Gally, and Evans have been decent to good this season so far. Might get a few second round picks and dump some salaries and THEN hopefully Hughes can do his job and get us the players that will make this team very hard to play against. Maybe even a decent RD.

They want CC to score 60+ this year!

Decent? They have outperformed their 3rd line opponents every game this season + Andersons contribution to a significantly improved PK

He's playing like Josh Anderson again.

Marty tried to teach him to slow down the game. But it was a big mistake.

He's dumb as rocks and he likes to skate fast.

Leave his blinders on and let him believe he's f1 even though he's f2 or f3.

Lol... What a concept. Leave players play to their strength. Who wudda thought...
So is it going to become a big decision then at TDL? Keep or trade?

Anderson is also doing what made him successful w CBJ - PK + 3rd line energy.

For some reason his role was changed to more offensively oriented when acquired by Mtl.

I said in preseason Habs big advantage is the depth Gallagher & Anderson provide to be able to outmatch their opponents and will stick w my forecast of 35G+ for the duo

It's early but what i would conclude from this season so far and what i think should probably be corrected before the next season start is this :

1. David Savard is done as top 4. Reinbacher and Mailloux wont be ready to handle the main load on the right side for 2 to 3 more years. So we have to find a vet top 4 on a 2-3 years contract to replace Savard and let Savard go. Someone like Hamrlik would be perfect.

2. For me it's becoming clear Dach is a winger. I think he can still be a quality top 6 winger once he finds his groove back. We should try to add a top 6 vet center for next season. Again ideally on a 2-3 years contract while waiting for Beck and Hage to show what they can do. Basically Monahan on a shorter contract.

Caufield - Suzuki - Slaf
Laine - vet center - Dach
Newhook - Evans - Demidov
Anderson - ? - Gallagher

3. A choice must be made between Matheson and Hutson. They both play the same role. Ideally the defense should look like that next season :

Hutson - vet top 4
Guhle - Reinbacher / Mailloux
Xhekaj / Struble - Barron

Matheson could be used as an asset to acquire one of the two needs above.

4. We must add a vet goalie. Again contract must not be too long 2-3 years. Also someone younger than Allen. Montombeau and Primo was worth a shot but if they keep playing like that something will need to be done. I agree there was maybe one weakish goal today the defense again made lot of big mistakes but it's the NHL you got to make some big saves here and there and they are not being done this season at all. The first goal was stopptable. It was a hign danger scoring chance and a big whoopsie from the defense but that was a stoppable goal. You got to save those here and there imo.
I agree to most of your post.

On the Dach point… I still believe in him as a center. We can’t trust what we see now to make a correct decision on what his potential is.

We’ve been spoiled with elite goaltending for too long, I forgot how deflating a weak goalie could be.
I've played hockey long enough to tell you as a player it's very very deflating. If the other team score after every mistake you do you feel like you have zero margin for error and you start getting out of the game plan to stop shots you should probably leave to the goalie.
