Disappointed but not surprised. There were always some concerns about this team's ability to score. Sure, it was enough to put up some goals against Slovakia and the Czech Republic, but Canada's defense and goaltending are on a different level from those countries. It also doesn't help that Team USA looked like they lost their legs about halfway through the 1st period, not the best effort from them.

Definitely not. Not by the U.S., at least.

You want to see what happens when one team doesn't play at the same level as the other, look at almost every other game Canada and the US played so far this tournament. Out shot by double, out scored by 4 and 5. US lost by 1. They were out possessed by a large margin, but they had many chances that they could and should have finished on.

Have to think Bobby Ryan might have been a bit of a better choice considering the big game is a loss due to offense. There were probably better options than certain players like Orpik. Then again maybe they just lose 3-0 or 4-1

I'd say a different coach would do more than Ryan.

The awful, selfish play by the forwards (other than Kane) killed any chance of winning. No ****ing clue what MaxPac was doing on the ice. Shooting every time he had the puck when there were guys wide open. Obnoxious selfishness.

Deflected goal wins the game. Whatever. Thats such an annoying way to lose the chance to compete for the Gold Medal, but thats sports for you.

Awful attitudes in here. Look at Canada's roster. They didn't even come close to what they're capable of until today. The US was outplayed by a better team, hands down. It happens. This was a close, exciting game played at a very high level.

Please. Canada's defense was amazing but the US forwards just let them force them to the outside, clog the lanes. No creativity, no quick movement. They had some great transition in the first and then it just went away never to be seen again. These are the best forwards USA had to offer and they couldn't get any sustained pressure aside from one dominant shift from Kane, Parise and Kesler.

Awful.

I felt like I was watching torts hockey

Pretty much how I felt! And you can't give Canada all the credit because the US has looked like this before (namely against Russia but even against weaker teams) when all their offense came on the rush and very little from a sustained cycle

Scoring not a single goal after the offensive performances this team has put on this tournament is one ****ing hell of a choke.

Comparing games vs canada and russia to the games with massive scoring outputs...
yea there doesn't appear to be an offensive juggernaut just a team that lost to a superior team, played even and should of lost to an even team and dominated weaker teams. Better team won b/c they played better. no choke

What an upsetting game. Really thought we would perform better. Props to Canada on a heck of a game, I just wish we had of actually shown up and looked like we wanted to play for Gold.

I don't think the US forwards let the Canadians do anything against them, the Canadians just did it. Their defense was amazing, like you said. Amazing defenses shut down good offenses.

Oh god, here come the many lovers of Ryan.

He wouldn't have made a difference.

The problem isn't talent on the wings. We just don't have the centers to win best on best tournaments. When is the U.S. going to develop a Crosby/Stamkos/Tavares/Malkin/etc? Mike Modano is the closest we've come and there's nobody as good as he was on the U.S. squad now.

This team didn't posses any other game plan outside of dumping and chasing. Where was that Meat line today? Who did they drill hard?

I'm not only pissed that they were pathetic on offense, I'm also pissed with what they were doing with Canadian puck carriers.

2010. Now, that was a battle.

This?

..

EDIT: And **** NBCSN! What the **** did ratface do in this game to warrant an interview?

He wouldn't have made a difference.

And you know that how? Over the last 5 years he has the second most goals by an American.

You may not like his play, that's fine. But the guy can score. That may be all he does. But lets look at this game.

1-0. Seems we were missing something.

Lol I hope this isn't a response to my comment because I was saying he MIGHT have made a difference but I also said we could have lost 3-0 or 4-1 with him.

Which is very clearly not LOVE by any means.

Don't overreact b/c I'm clearly not. But he would have made a difference. Could have been worse or better

The defenseman in that tournament killed the USA. I'm sorry but when you have to rely on Brooks Orpik and John Carlson for minutes in a game like that, it shows the lack of depth that the team has defensively. McDonagh and Suter should be solid for next time around, Shattenkirk and Fowler should be as well, but the USA really needs more than that. No more Brooks Orpik's on the team in 2018.

Kesler was absolute crap that game. You took 5 centers for a reason. Brown should have been scratched. Dressing Stepan would have allowed for more flexibility with the lines.
