Canadian refs will hurt Canada more than help...they will feel that every call against Sweden will be heavily scrutinized...
What's the best way of avoiding that? Not call any penalties against Sweden at all.

Niklas Kronwall and Erik Karlsson both don't see it as a problem. Let's take their word shall we? Forsberg himself admitted to throwing the final game against Slovakia in order to avoid a quarterfinal match up against Canada in 2006 didn't he? Not like it would have mattered with that mess in 2006 anyway.
But I think people assume the NHL is like other sports. I don't want to brag about this, but we have the cleanest game out there, that includes soccer. People are so nervous because in other sports there have been point shavings, and so on and so forth but the NHL has the best refs in the world, in any sport. Canadian refs will bend over backwards to make sure the game is called fair and Sweden should be so lucky that they'll have that luxury of a fair game.
It doesn't make sense to me, Forsberg played in the NHL, he also saw the rotten officiating at the World Championships and the poor calls year in and year out at the World Juniors where a "loud" but clean hit was a penalty. He knows that never helped Canada and stuff like that compromises the game rather than a fair game.
Trust me, the NHL does not need Canada to win gold again. It does them no favours at all. Canadians are like trained seals, we'll lose 100 tournaments in a row and still paint our bodies red and white. The NHL knows we'll be watching regardless. So there is no fix at all tomorrow, I guarantee it.

Haha funny reading in this thread really is... all canadians now try to black paint Peter Forsberg cuz he saying what everyone thinks even the russian wasent that happy about the Russian USA game with an american ref...

If the Swedes had any well known refs in the Nhl, I would be more than comfortable with them reffing the game.
My thought as well. In addition: these refs are professionals, and you can bet they want to ensure that they call the game with integrity if they ever hope to have another crack at high level games.
Apparently its a big deal in Sweden. Canadian conspiracy to win the Olympics. Whats truly funny is no Canadian would even want to win a game because of the refs. Its just a ridiculous thought.

its a shame people like you have ruined the outcome of the game....
if Canada wins - its because of the refs
If Sweden wins - its because the refs had to prove they arent biast

hopefully it will be a great game to enjoy, no scandal like happenings please.
when USA took a lot of penalties today they got called for it. They slashed a lot at the hands of finish player and most got called. even in the end. Hopefully the refs in the final will be so professional they make it fair game.

I know you weren't asking me, but: if they had the same level of accreditation and experience, I'd absolutely be fine with that.

the idea is to score more goals then the other team, dont break the rules and the refs shouldnt matter.

As a Canadian I'm uncomfortable with a Canadian referee in any games we participate in. I'm not doubting the integrity of the refs. I just think the optics are bad. There are plenty of competent referees from countries other than Canada. Why not use them?

You know, in that USA-Russia game they went upstairs to check on the goal. That had nothing to do with the referee at that point. Nothing. It is out of his hands. Rene Fasel himself said that rule should be changed. As you can see, it had nothing to do with a referee calling it. Quick pointed it out to the ref, the ref went upstairs. If he spoke Chinese the ref would have done the same thing.
The Russians have a lot to complain about, but poor refereeing is not one of them. If people watched the Russian team and thought they got hosed by a questionable call and that was the end of them then you really weren't paying attention. Forsberg seems like he has a built in excuse already in place. Would you rather have a Joseph Kompalla clone Pete?
