If NHL players playing in Olympic RUSSIA HOCKEY team fail again or not?

Yeah, Morgan Rielly is going to be playing over the reigning Norris trophy winner who was voted by his peers as one of the 3 best players in the league last year.

It's all about handedness. Obviously Burns is the better player. Based of the current management/coaching staff of Canada's National Team, they would take four LHD and four RHD (which I agree with). I did not want to put Reilly on my team. Or Giordano really. But there aren't many LHD that could beat them out. Maybe Muzzin.

I took Doughty, Pietrangelo, Subban, and Weber over Burns on RHD. Borderline, I know. Tough to leave Burns off.

Marchand - Crosby - Bergeron
Benn - McDavid - Seguin
Tavares - Stamkos - Scheifele
Hall - Giroux - Stone
Mackinnon
Monahan
yes no Toews

Keith - Doughty
Vlasic - Pietrangelo
Rielly - Subban
Burns
Giordano

Price
Holtby

In no universe ever would Reilly have been picked over either of Weber and Letang this year

Also Toews makes it over Monahan whether you like it or not he has been Canada's shut down man for years now

Toews only has 1 more point than Rielly lol. Monahan is way better than him this year and if they want to pick players on merit rather than reputation they'll go with him

and as I've already said, Weber and Letang (and Burns) play the right and Rielly plays the left. You may as well be arguing that Getzlaf should make it over Rielly

Marchand- Crosby - Bergeron
Benn - McDavid - Stamkos
Hall - Tavares - Scheifele
Toews - Bergeron - Stone
fringe: Mackinnon, Monahan, Bailey, Giroux

Keith - Doughty
Brodie - Pietrangelo
Vlasic - Burns
Giordano - Weber
fringe: Subban, Parayko, Muzzin, Letang

Holtby
Crawford
Smith/Dubnyk

To all the posters with Hall on their roster ... Hall wouldnt have made it.

Hockey Canada just doesnt like him for some reason.
In 2014 with the shortage of LW (Benn, Sharp, Marleau, Kunitz...) he wasnt even selected, and that was his best season ever coming off of his 2nd best season. He played in WHC every year as well. You could tell his main goal was to get to the Olympics, he wanted to win. Wouldve been dynamite but alas they won without him so you cant argue much.

I think Josh Morrissey is a surprise candidate.
He does seem to he a player that has improved and is on the rise...

With the lack of LHD depth (which has been discussed at length here - and some people still can't grasp that it would be 4 LHD and 4 RHD) he could get consideration for sure. Other guys like him that would get looks are Edmundson and Matheson.

For LHD, Keith and Vlasic would be locks, and in the mix for the other two would be Giordano, Reilly, Muzzin, Edmundson, Morrisey, Matheson, Brodie.

Not good depth really, and would lead to some good RHD not making it - Doughty and Pietrangelo locks, leaving only two spots for Subban, Weber, Burns, Letang, Parayko, etc

LHD is the only position really up for debate I think. Maybe goaltending. And, to Getzlaf or not to Getzlaf...

Canada's RD is so deep. Hard to leave Subban and Weber.

Its a shame we will miss this.

Team Canada

Forwards:
Marchand - Crosby - Bergeron
Benn - McDavid - Seguin
Tavares - Stamkos - Scheifele
Couture - Getzlaf - Stone

Extras: MacKinnon, Toews
On the bubble: Carter (injured), Giroux, Hall, Monahan, O'Reilly, Schwartz

Defensemen:
Keith - Weber
Vlasic - Doughty
Pietrangelo - Burns

Pietro is the most versatile d-man in the Canadian core and can play both sides, Babcock utilized him on the left side instead of Muzzin at the Gimmick Cup of Hockey tournament and he did pretty well. He'll take up that last spot on the left to stabilize the weaker left side.

Extras: Giordano, Subban
On the bubble: Brodie, Muzzin, Parayko, Rielly

Goalies:
Price
Crawford
Holtby

On the bubble: Jones, Murray, Smith
