The best ppg season i could find for a u22 player in the SHL since 2000 was

Elias Petterson with 1.273 ppg
Marc Zuccarello 1.143 ppg
Jacob Silverberg 1.102 ppg
Linus Omark 1.038 ppg
Henrik Zetterberg 0.979 ppg
Jonathan Berggren 0.918 ppg
Olivier Kapanen 0.916 ppg

It doesn't guarantee anything as we see with Omark and the samle size is too small the season is not over yet he's just one bad sequence away from not being close to a ppg but he's a legit prospect.

I like his game in preseason.

We'll see what hugo has in store in the offseason. But I see the bottom six being too crowded out of camp for Roy and Kapanen. But they should be go to guys in Lavak, perhaps playing together on the same line.

Heineman - Evan's - Newhook
Gallagher - Beck - Anderson

I'd rather Roy and Kapanen not be the 13th forward.

Is it possible he plays one more SHL season next year? I’m not so sure he is a bottom 6 type to be honest.. might have the same problem with Roy. It’s probably best to let these two keep developing in the AHL and SHL. They either push for an offensive spot in the NHL or they dominate the development league and they look good as trade bait.

I’m OK to pencil in Beck next year but that might be it. Kapanen needs to adjust to the physical side and not sure he’s the type you want grinding in the bottom 6 in the NHL

Why not the AHL for Kapanen?

Why not the AHL for Kapanen?

I get a feeling he prefers the SHL to develop and I'm fine with that personally. Don't really matter to me if it's AHL or SHL. Ideally AHL so he can grow with the other young pieces (Roy for example) but if he prefers SHL because he is not ready for NHL, I wouldn't push it too much

Wasn't he loaned to the SHL this year after playing a few NHL games? I believe he already had the NHL contract to start this season and we loaned him to the SHL.
He signed a 1 year SHL contract after his Liiga season last year, then the Habs signed him to his ELC. He had the choice of playing in the NHL or the SHL this season, the AHL was never an option unless he stayed on the NHL club until like January because of the transfer deal between the SHL and the NHL.

Getting loaned back to the SHL wasn't so much his choice as the only thing the Habs could do if they were not going to play him in the NHL.

And he made the team out of camp. He'll be on the roster next year barring a shitty camp or an injury.

It's very rare for a player drafted later than the first round to gain value by playing in the AHL or Europe. In fact the longer such a player will stay there without being showcased in the NHL the more his value will usually diminish.

interesting, I thought it was only for 1 year, so that means it's NHL or back to the SHL next season.
It depends what the agrement between the NHL and SHL is. He's under contract with Montreal so maybe he has to report to the AHL unless Montreal loans him. I don't know the agrement the NHL has with the SHL.

Aren’t they at the point where they tell him where he’s playing? I’d imagine they’ll bring him over.

They can't send him to the AHL due to the PTA, only 1st round picks can ben sent to the AHL when you sign your draft pick that is already under contract in the SHL. There's some sort of loophole that if you keep them on the NHL roster till mid-Dec, then they can be sent down.

Yes, the Habs are going to decide. All I am saying is it's not impossible he plays one more SHL season. That's a good development league as well.

The more and more I think about this, I think we have room for one of Beck or Kapanen. One makes it and the other is AHL. If that guy is Kapanen, maybe the Habs need him in Laval to fill a spot.

Not sure I would call that a fact. If he producing, his value is stable. The value diminishes if they stall or have meh production.

Are you telling me there is a chance to trade for Nemec?

I just think he needs to play in NA. Everyone remembers one or 2 exhibition games where he looked good, but forgets regular season games where he wasn’t as good. Besides, Laval will need him. He’s going to play a prominent role down there just as he is now.

Production in the AHL at 23-24 doesn't mean much. Usually if the player is still in the AHL at 23-24 and never played in the NHL it's because 99% of the time he's not a NHLer outside of maybe a 4th liner. When a player turn 22 you got to showcase him at the NHL level at least 20ish games or else you wont get much for him.
