It's a typical fluff piece, that's all.

Might be too yes. He might have known and just went with the funny side of the story. It could be that the author writes this knowingly. Anyway that's about all that can be said about this ahah! No point in overanalyzing this thing any further.

I wish Kapanen all the best and will cheer for him this year in the Liiga/WJC, but I unfortunately get some Jacob Olofsson vibes with this pick (IE decent minor league player but not an NHLer).

I would have taken Pastujov there 10 out of 10 times had I been in charge of the pick. But hopefully I'm wrong and Kapanen ends up being a damned good NHLer.
That was the weakness or strength of the last draft: the marginal difference in talent and projected value of the players 'rated' between between 30 and 60. A team had as good a chance getting a "NHLer" at 31 or at sixty. In fact, several lower rated players went in the first round. A case in point is Chase Stillman taken 29th by the Devils. An inspired choice as I believe he will be a much better NHLer than many of the players drafted before him. Though I like the Mailloux pick, as Stillman 'fell, ' I was hoping Bergevin would awake from his customary stupor and trade up and secure a player that many teams were sleeping on. But alas, the Devils picked a player that I believe that many teams will regret passing on.

Yeah it seems to me that the Habs are looking for another Suzuki type. Intelligent players whose on-ice awareness help them overcome average skating (Kidney, Kapanen). The thing is, there’s only one Nick Suzuki, so while you might have drafted possible NHL players, they have limited upside.

If he become better player like Kasperi Kapanen (like he say in interview), that's going to be huge for the futur of MTL.

Liiga opens their season tomorrow, Kapanen's team plays tomorrow and Saturday so will be interesting to see how he's used. Hopefully streams won't be as tough as in the past few years but we'll see.

He reminds me of Galchenyuk, but he truly has a chance to become something if he knows that he sucks at everything else other than shooting from the get go.

I haven't seen much of him yet but I don't see Galchenyuk as he's more physical, better defensively then Galchenyuk was at that age.

Only prospect in action today is Kapanen at 11:30 AM ET. KalPa is playing Assat.

Unless of course Gordin is somehow up in the VHL with SKA-Neva, but we can safely assume it is not the case.

he's not listed as injured but didn't play today so I wonder if they are going to send him down to the junior league since he hasn't played in a month and the WJC's are only 11 days away (unless he's already with them)

I don't know if we have any Finnish posters here who can fully translate this interview of Kapanen.

But when you translate the tweet, a quote from the intervew is: "The short-term goal is to play in the League and get a place here. In a few years, the goal is to play in North America."
