Salary Cap: Oliver Ekman-Larsson

Looks like OEL does PK. Myers of course is Green's incumbent on the right side.
Schmidt and Hamonic took the lions share of harder matchups last season.

Myers was the third fiddle who got a bunch of minutes

I guess its my fault to be excited about what players we can draft today. Trading a 9# overall pick for a 30 years old when we are rebuilding is insane, absolutely insane. His prime will be over when we are ready to compete again, this is madness!

If OEL magically reverse course (possible), still disgusted by this trade. Batting 10% on dmen if he does

So what's the scouting report on oel now? Did he lose a step, lost his shot, can't process the game anymore?

LOL Your guys' defence are made up of old and overpaid players. Good luck trying to win the Cup

This guy is washed. I am thinking Wade Redden at this point for contract similarities. I expect a solid lottery pick finish this season, and hopefully Jimbo and Whitebread get the boot.

Call me a died in the wool optimist, but OEL is definitely a bounce-back candidate in VanCity.

I mean let's face it....for the past number of seasons, the Arizona Coyotes have been an absolute @$%#-show. Stripped of high draft picks for draft irregularities. An ownership group that changes as fast as people change socks. Even their GM quit. Playing in an arena in Glendale nobody that wants to even come to.

They went all in with high-priced veterans like Kessel, and then traded most of them away. Now they're stripping down the roster and the payroll for a complete rebuild. They might actually be in worse shape now than the Seattle Kraken.

I think the Canucks basically rescued OEL from hockey purgatory. I'm betting he repays that faith.

remember that weird blip when we ran sutter - beagle - eriksson as our fourth line?

well our new version of the $14 million fourth line is the $13 million OEL - myers pairing

I am interested to see how he responds to being a Canuck..in a crazy Canadian market..

I asked the coyotes fans on their board if they thought OEL could rebound:

- tough to say man. If his play over the last 2 years is any indication then it’s not looking good. Players sometimes find their groove after being traded, however

- Board was 30/70 I guess on him being able to turn it around, I'm in the 30% camp. I think getting away from Tocchet and Housley will do wonders for him and having him not be captain I think will lift the load he's been carrying and we've been terrible albeit but 2 years since he's been playing, so if you guys can be competitive hopefully he will turn it around. He's been one of my favorite players for a long time, so I'm hoping he returns to form.

- My perception is that OEL is kind of a sensitive guy, and thrives when the relationships around him are strong and he has lots of support and encouragement. He has lost a step and his shot isn’t as good as it used to be because of some injuries, but if the relationship with his coach is good, he has no leadership responsibility to worry about from wearing a letter, and good support around him, I think he’ll do just fine. Maybe not back to being an all star, but acceptable, consistent top 4 play

- That's because he's impressive. I think there is an excellent chance he gets closer to his former self. The coach did not like him and the feeling was mutual.

- Yes! Very good chance OEL rebounds!
He could. He could become Bobby Orr.

But probability wise says otherwise.

The probability that an aging 30 year old player improves goes against what we know about players and their "peaks"/decline.

The probability that a player who has actually been in a noticiable decline doubly so.

Ive been a fan since the 80s and I cannot possibly count the number of times the Canucks have made a trade and fans said "this is the one".

Yeah once in a very blue moon you get a Naslund type trade. But Naslund was young.

So its possible just not probable.

Hopefully he has a better attitude than Loui when the fans turn on him. Hopefully he's grateful and excited to be a Canuck and gives it his all. If we still had Tanev we could have used Tan Man to pump him up.

Very disappointing trade.

When the most optimistic takes are in the vein of 'he was probably just so bad in Arizona because he quit on the team there' that's probably not a good start.

I've found this player to be soft/lazy for years and after some knee injuries his skating isn't where it used to be either.

He's a decent transition defender. He's good on the PP - but is unlikely to play there much. Defensively he's a softer Tyler Myers. Lots of standing around, doesn't love contact.

TOI has declined 7 years in a row which must be some sort of record.

No knees, doesn't want contact. He's an ideal projection and mentor for OJ

He's certainly some one who needs a Tanev like dman to help with the heavy lifting.
His weakness is his battle level along the boards/in front of net. On a positive note, he at least gets to loose pucks well.

Canucks defense should be more mobile with OEL/Hughes/Rathbone, and zone exits should be much much better. Problem is where are we going to find 3 good defenders to compliment them....

I'm interested in seeing if moving Hughes to his off wing and pairing him with OEL would mesh.

Let OEL know he doesn't have to be the guy driving the play, something his body might not be able to do to the same level as before. Insteas, he can use his vision and IQ to provide smart puck support.

Would obviously be a pairing that will struggle vs heavy teams, but that's our defence currently. Play them behind the top 2 lines, and use puck possession to mask their defensive short comings.

Chalk me is another one who is cautiously optimistic on OEL rebound the next two to three years. I am a fantasy owner of Chychrun and I have seen enough of how poorly OEL was playing in the desert. But hockey is much more about analytical charts, and I could see this being the example of it. Of course, the odds of a great contract after 34yo is slim, that’s another matter.
