GDT: Okay, so we won a game. Big whoop

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. The admin team will continue to work on existing issues, templates and upgrade all necessary available addons to minimize impact of this new version. Click Here for Updates
Team puts up a lot of shots without scoring: "this team is stupid for not addressing the scoring problems."

Team wins a game by outshooting the opponent and scoring on a perfectly average number of their shots: "I still think we're getting lucky."

(Presumably, at some point in the season when we put up a really high shooting percentage in a game and win with a lot of goals)

"Unsustainable, can't expect to win many games like that."

Since it’ll undoubtedly come up, here’s the rule:

41.1 Boarding – A boarding penalty shall be imposed on any player who checks or pushes a defenseless opponent in such a manner that causes the opponent to hit or impact the boards violently or dangerously. The severity of the penalty, based upon the impact with the boards, shall be at the discretion of the Referee.

There is an enormous amount of judgment involved in the application of this rule by the Referees. The onus is on the player applying the check to ensure his opponent is not in a defenseless position and if so, he must avoid or minimize contact. However, in determining whether such contact could have been avoided, the circumstances of the check, including whether the opponent put himself in a vulnerable position immediately prior to or simultaneously with the check or whether the check was unavoidable can be considered. This balance must be considered by the Referees when applying this rule.

So... Proof that the Refs hate Pittsburgh and should have called boarding.. (TIC)

How many usesless low chance shots did we take tonight from the point oir low danger areas? Hell look at the last shot we had on goal before the 2-0. It was worthless and a turnover.

Notoriously, teams like the Avs and the Bruins put up 30 shots per night and they’re all high danger chances, primo real estate in the slot, which is why they both average 6.5 goals per game.

I'd just like to take a moment to point out that Svech has 14 goals in 23 games, which is good for fourth in the league, and a 50 goal pace for a full season.
Since his rookie year I’ve felt he’s capable of being a 40-50+ goal guy, maybe not year in year out but every other year or every 3 years or something with 30-35 goal seasons mixed in. Rod has had him playing a more complete game which is awesome but he really does have legit elite goal scoring talent. Hopefully he keeps it up. We are lucky to have him
