I enjoyed the game. Too many penalty calls for my liking, but you don't always get everything you want. I believe that the Jets are looking like a solid 2nd/3rd finish and are solid contenders. Looking forward to Friday night!

Jets seem to lose the games they should win and win the ones they should lose.

Can't really fault the effort.

Helle played well, wasn't at fault for any of the goals.

I thought this was Morrissey's best game in a while. Played big minutes and did well both ways but he can still be more assertive and physical. Poolman was solid but needs to bot run around as much and needs to get his breakouts under control.

Pionk is really feeling it right now and is playing real good confident hockey. Nice bounce back game by Forbert, was solid.

Third pairing had a quiet night which is a good thing for both of them.

CSW were OK but didn't really I've the needle enough and the issues were compounded playing them against McDavid tonight.

Second line was pretty good, ehlers was flying again and Stastney was solid.

Lowry once again misses on a breakaway, if only he had hands. That line was its usual gritty self.

Fourth line barely got on due to the penalties but had energy when they did.

The bolded!

And Helle is making a habit of giving up goals on the first shot, and more on the first 5 or so shots. Not that I am pinning those 2 goals on him, but I think that is now 4 games like that this season. And some of the goals were a lot softer than the first 2 last night, or at least the first one.

I have to confess, I didn't really watch much of this game. Put it on FF right after the Oil scored their 2nd goal, on their 2nd SOG. Watched in real time for each goal, each PP and each PK. Better reffing and it wouldn't have taken me nearly so long to watch.

Reffing killed the flow of the game

It is weird what they decide to call on both teams. They call some real chincy stuff and let some of the heinous things go. I am not sure why Russel was allowed to stay in the game as it clearly looked like a 5 minute major to me

We just couldn't get a bounce tonight but I think that is fair since we won the last game when we didn't deserve to
Terrible hit from behind and it looks as if you can now cross check with impunity in the NHL again. Both the Oilers and the Flames were driving our players in the small of the back with their sticks the past couple of weeks.

I feel like the whole team plays better when the shackles come off and the D are allowed to rush with the puck, and try to keep plays alive in the offensive zone. And I don't think it's entirely score effects either.

It's why I don't want Beau and Forbert if I could help it on the ice. I'd rather see Pionk, JoMo, Poolman, Heinola, and likely even Stanley with the green light to move with the puck. Not talking firewagon hockey, but IMO PoMo needs to let the D activate much more.
I'm still baffled as to why people don't appreciate Forborts contributions. Is it possible he's part of the reason why Pionk has been so great this year?

Thank you ... excellent post.
The smart people can figure that out ... maybe if the Forbort bashers took off their masks they would get more oxygen to the brain to revive it.

Pionk would play good with everyone expect morrisey. The guy is turning into a solid top pairing dman I’m front of our eyes

Whether he is that much of a contributor to Pionk I can't say. There is also no way to know if Pionk would be doing as well, worse, or even better with someone else. What I do see when I watch him is a player who is slow and getting himself out of position. He also can't move the puck.

So you don't think that your partner on D has impact on your performance? As a defenseman I would ferociously argue this. Also, why do you think that Pionk playing with Morrissey would drag him down, but playing with lesser defensemen on our team would not?

There really isn't any logic in this argument.

I assert that Forborts style allows Pionk to play a more explosive game, because he knows that Forbort is good defensively and will cover up for him. He has confidence in his partner and they seem to have good chemistry (passing between each other, good support, knowing where each other is and what they are going to do).

I think this is what's missing from Morrissey's game right now. As a matter of fact, I'd bet that putting Morrissey with Pionk would help Morrissey's game, but the challenge with that is you would significantly weaken the second pair if you do that.

I think we are actually starting to see Pionk/ Forbort usurp Morrissey and flavor of the week as the top pair for the Jets.

I just wish Maurice would staple Morrissey to Demelo and let them sort it out. It is a good complimentary pair that worked well last season.

This is just wrong. Yes, Forbort is slow but he is very well positioned and he moves the puck quite well.

Demelo is necessary to play with weaker d and rookies. They should bring up Samberg and staple that pairing together. They should bring up Heinola for bottom pairing with demelo. There is a reason no one is talking bout breaking up that 2nd pairing.

You don't sacrifice your top, heavy minute pair to prop up your third. Our top pair (read, Morrissey) need to be better. I've actually really liked Poolman but I don't think he's the partner that Morrissey is ideally suited to. Poolman has really been driving the play up the ice and I'd like to see what he could do with easier matchups on the third pair.

Samberg is hardly sacrificing anyone when he looks like a bonafide stud.

OMG this again. Samberg plays 3 games in the AHL and looks good so he's a top pair NHL defenseman.

It's ridiculous. This isn't a video game.
Neither demelo or Morissey look like top pairing guys this season so don’t know what to tell you.
Morissey hasn’t looked top pair since we traded Trouba.

Been thinking this as I’ve watched this topic. Might of posted about it as well. 3 games against other rusty opponents can not tell us he is ready.

So, because Demelo and Morrissey look like 2 pair or lower d, a guy who has 3 games of pro experience TOTAL should be able to slide into the best league in the world and perform better than them against guys like McDavid, Draisaitl, Matthews, Petterson, etc.

You realize how crazy this sounds, right?

If, IF the Jets decided to abandon their development plan with a key asset like Samberg and promote him to the NHL this season (which will never ever happen unless we have catastrophic injuries), they would play him, like Stanley, on the bottom pair, sheltered. This doesn't help the Jets one iota because we have plenty of defensemen who can play very well in that role. Our issue is we do not have top end D talent. ESTABLISHED talent with a proven track record.

The only guys we currently have that can make a claim to that are Pionk and Morrissey. Morrissey hasn't demonstrated that ability for 18 months, and Pionk has never been good enough to do it (though I think he has blossomed into that this season).

Right now, Pionk is our best defenseman, and likely part of our top pair. Forbort is very complimentary and though he's likely a #4 realistically, his chemistry with Pionk makes him a sensible option on that top pair.
