Seravalli: Oilers tried to acquire Drew O'Connor last week, looking for a backup plan now with similar traits ( big and fast) Holloway replacement

Probably should have matched on Holloway if they knew they were going to need that style of player. Now he's looking like a steal at 2.4 million and will probably get over 7 on his next contract.

He's been absolutely dynamic and pushed himself into the future plans as a top 6 winger. Always liked the player when he was on the Oilers because of size+speed+motor, but didn't realize he had as much skill as he does. Him and Kyrou have been great when on the same line

It's really not difficult to find a Drew O'Connor type of player. He's really not anything special.

Tanev in Seattle sticks out as an obvious backup plan. Honestly I think Tanev is better than O'Connor.
It’s probably not the player in isolation but the player at a certain cap hit.

I've watched O'Connor for his entire NHL career and saw multiple years of Tanev between both Pittsburgh and Seattle. Tanev brings everything that O'Connor brings. O'Connor doesn't play like his 6'3" size indicates.

The thing that O'Connor was supposed to bring that Tanev didn't bring was skill, especially as a net front guy. That didn't really ever develop, though.

Evans is another good fit there.
Tanev also makes 3.5 and DOC 900K

But GM's trading for size and length at the trade deadline is as predictable as it gets.

You should prioritize players for their ability to use traits and not the traits themselves. Insane I know make me McDavids GM.

One is 26 vs 33
One is 925k vs 3.5m

Both are great and I would want Tanev as well but DOC looks good with Sherwood.

Yeah DOC is big and fast.

Really the only thing holding him back is that he sucks.

I actually like how he fought to get free for a empty net goal last night. He doesn't hesitate to scrum it up and we lacked that.

I’m happy for you and I’m happy that I had no knowledge of this until this moment and I’m also happy that I will(hopefully)never feel any obligation to watch a game DOC is playing in again

I'm a fan of DOC but he always leaves you wanting more. It looked like he was breaking out last year and then more or less disappeared this year. But as a 3rd or 4th liner, he's solid and has that puck hound quality. But I do wonder how he'll do away from Sullivan, might be good for him and I wish him well.

...that's why it fits...add some ummph to the Oil Bottom 6...
Unfortunately that ummph is making Hyman money (not literally, considering how loaded that family must actually be).

Wouldn't hate Montreal retaining but doubt Kent would do it. Armia+Evans package makes more sense for any team.

Doc makes 900 k. Well worth the value of him brining speed and forechecking to one of the slowest teams in the league with the Canucks.

900K to skate around fast doing nothing.

I’m glad you are happy with him. Hope he turns into a real game changer.

I still think that Colton Sissons makes a ton of sense for Edmonton. He's an ace on faceoffs, righthanded, he PKs and he can elevate his minutes, if required. He's played a number of roles in Nashville over the years and this year he's kind of fallen down the food chain.

Not 'big' by any means, but he brings that type of game with a few more intangibles he's likely to offer. Odds are our 4C is playing with some skill, so we might want a guy with some experience doing just that.

My picks are blumel and klapka for that role. But I think Evander Kane for game 1 of playoffs fills that need

That Stan Bowman couldn’t land Drew O’Connor should give hockey fans outside Edmonton an idea of how inept a GM he’s been since being hired. If the player isn’t on waivers and/or mounting a comeback from a major injury, he’s been unable to acquire them. It’s getting pretty embarrassing now.

We’ll see if that changes closer to the deadline, but a wet mop could do what Bowman has so far and wouldn’t carry the stink of a sexual abuse scandal.
Yup. Emberson has been an abject failure.

What's Christian Fischer up to in Detroit? Is he still as fast as he was 5-6 years ago? He's another example of a big, fast player with lousy production.

And on a contending team DOC is watching the game from the stands.
Nah, there's room for DOCs on contenders. I would say he could easily be a 2016 Kuhnhackl.

If you combined DOC's body and physical attributes with Bedard's overall skill set, you'd have an elite superstar.
