Wait.. are they honestly saying Savard for a 1st?

I live in Montreal and catch a lot of Habs games. He might be the slowest Dman in the league and arguably one of the worst Dmen on one of the worst teams.

I imagine his Xgoal share might be the worst, but it's hard to tell if its him or Xhekaj being equally slow and bad. Their advanced stats are abysmal.

Yeah, any team that dresses Savard isn't winning a playoff series, let alone making the playoffs. He's absolutely cooked. Habs fans are looking for gulluble GM who thinks the clock can be turned back for a playoff run.

Just FYI Habs fans dont know anything about western teams. The games here start at 11pm and are usually blacked out.

I need to spend a f***ton of money on a VPN, western Canada sports cable package, and 2 subscription services to catch Oiler games. There's no f***ing way in hell any Habs fans watch Oiler games.

So they're going off of lazy narratives from Toronto from hack writers who also don't watch West Conf games:

Oilers have an ECHL defense, and the worst Dman on a lottery team is going to somehow fix that.
He completely blows. And yes he’s slow as shit. Habs fans know this too, just search keyword “slow” on the HF Habs and you’ll see Savards name associated with every post.

This thread was created to create a false narrative that Savard has value. Simple as that.

And yeh I’d be surprised if any Habs fan really knew the Oilers team and what they need. That said, no effin way OP is a real Oilers fan. This whole thread is a scam.

Adam Pelech for RNH straight up . Close in age , similar contracts , both have been better in the past , both have no trade restrictions on their contracts

RNH has a full no movement clause and we have Ekholm and Nurse as our top two LD, neither of whom is being bumped down for Pelech. Trading RNH - who would shoot down the move anyway - to bolster the bottom pairing is nonsensical.

Counter offer from Montréal:

2nd for Savard at 50%

If we're retaining I want a 1st.

Coffey is pretty clearly trying to have a mobile defense, I really don't think Savard fits the gameplan, even if we were offered him for free, I would pass.

The playoffs are a war of attrition. You don't win a Cup with just a bunch of Coffey's. You need to wear down your opponents and outlast them. Savard don't play pretty but he'll go the distance.

Wait.. are they honestly saying Savard for a 1st?

If we're using our last retention spot, then yeah. Let's be honest, Savard showed up out of shape in September like an old school NHL'er but he's getting better as the season goes on. I'm liking him and Xhekaj as a pair recently and I'm thinking he should be firing on all cylinders by the Trade Dead Line.

You didn’t get a first for Edmundson and I highly HIGHLY doubt you get one for the corpse of David Savard.

Coolsies. Anywho we got a 3rd and a 7th for Edmundson's zombie-form. Those 2 picks despite the fact that he missed close to 80 games in the last 2 seasons he played with us. Despite the fact that he was an LD and not an RD like Savard.

Whether you like it or not Physical Defensive RDs who are Cup winners come with a premium at the TDL. It is what it is amigo.

You can want whatever you want, but the reality is that other teams have started to cotton onto the fact that the Habs are snake oil salesmen and if they’re peddling a veteran defenceman, he’s probably awful. That’s why there was virtually no market for Edmundson, despite being big, physical, and a Cup winner.

Savard is 34 and moves like a glacier, and 30 hits is not physical, especially not for a team that never has the puck and spends most of the game in their own zone.

You might get a 2nd from the right team, but nobody is giving up a first for 2024-25 Savard.

Let's just all admit that Savard to Edmonton isn't likely and he isn't a good fit. Maybe the Habs will get a 1st for him from someone if retention were added. I certainly don't begrudge them that if it happens.

I just don't see him being worth a whole lot to Edmonton.

The Oilers still need a mobile, puck moving 2nd pair RHD. I would've preferred they go after a more fast skating, stay at home type but that isn't apparently what management wants. Does Savard fit either of those descriptions? I don't think he does.

Demanding a 1st from the Oilers for Savard isn't really taking into account what the team wants or what the team needs.

Wut? Why don't you ask NJD fans how Kovacevic has worked out for them? I mean CBJ may not be jazzed over Harris but that whole trade was predicated on getting rid of Laine and his onerous contract. Just because you don't have the cojones to risk a trade doesn't mean the spooky evil heartless Habs are out here trying to bamboozle ya.

They paid a reasonable price for a 26 year old bottom pairing defenceman. You want to stuff Savard in a Time Machine first, call us up.

It’s not about cojones, it’s about brains, and only a f***ing moron is paying a first rounder for the shambling corpse of David Savard.
