2 trades for the Oilers to fix their Defense

Trade #1;
Oilers; Carlo, Frederic
Bruins; Bouchard, J. Skinner

Trade #2;
Oilers; Savard (50% retained)
Canadiens: Stecher, 2026 3rd
Yeah, Savard costs you a 2nd rounder. Especially if retained at all....

MTL has no need for Stecher.

The stupidity of some Oiler fans in thinking trading an offensive dynamo from the backend at age 25 for 2 perennial #4 pluggers will Fix our goaltending woes.

It's amazing just how oblivious these Skinner earthers are to such a patently obvious problem. The Skinner earthers ignore all of these metrics and stats that tell us our defense is actually, finally good, and ignore all these metrics and stats that tell us our goaltending is terrible, and still pass most of the blame on to what is probably our best defense since Pronger was here.

The Skinner earthers seem to defend every bad goal he lets in, claiming a deflection, or screening, or Bouchard, who is never allowed to make a mistake because mistakes are impossible to stop, and would sooner blame McDavid, Draisaitl, and even trade Bouchard for lesser players like Savard than ever blame the guy who cost us the Cup in 2023. And almost cost us round 2 last year. But hey, he had that one good series against Dallas, guys! Just ignore the lowest save percentage of any goalie in a SCF since the 80s....

I also love the whole, "he's making under $3 million, guys, these are perfectly fine numbers for that salary" argument. Yeah, I would love to see how many guys ahead of him numbers-wise are making less or roughly the same...I'd wager a majority of them. And depending on what charts you look at, there are either 41 goalies with better numbers or 74...

I said no to Savard last year? And it cost me a cup?

On the first question, probably. Second question, no it did not. Leaving a $1M of unused cap space and not spending it on an extra scoring fwd may have though.
You want to learn thru your mistakes. Einstein said idiocy is doing same thing over and over and expecting different results.
You'll lose another cup. You only have so many years with McDavid.

Savard proven playoff warrior with a ring. The 32nd pick is small price to pay for a ring.

If the Bruins miss the playoffs and Carlo continues to regress, it might make sense to sell him off while he still has name value and to help a retool.
I've seen teams get more for lesser players at the deadline. Keep your picks!

Who are some third-pairing players who could be an upgrade on Stecher and Emberson and would cost a low pick or a flailing prospect?

Montreal fans are some of the most delusional and picky fans ever lol

We don't want Savard. And we're not trading Bouchard.

You are right that we only have 2 more years (if that) to get Mcdavid a cup.

Savard is not that guy anymore. Nobody will give a 1st round pick for him so maybe you need to come back to reality a bit.

That's a better top 6 than the Oil have?

Dude sucks. We'll be spending the 1st on someone much better than a washed 3rd pair defenceman.

Also, Einstein said insanity, not idiocy.

A few - oilers 2nd line is pretty underwhelming

Skinner was a failed experiment I never liked. That said, Draisaitl is tied with Kaprizov in even strength goals. Both are 5 goals ahead of the next group of guys. Arvidsson just came back. Need to see if he gets going. Kane will be back at some point. Even playing with 4th liners in Kapanen and Podkolzin, Draisaitl is just killing it. Beyond carrying a line.

Wait.. are they honestly saying Savard for a 1st?

I live in Montreal and catch a lot of Habs games. He might be the slowest Dman in the league and arguably one of the worst Dmen on one of the worst teams.

I imagine his Xgoal share might be the worst, but it's hard to tell if its him or Xhekaj being equally slow and bad. Their advanced stats are abysmal.

Yeah, any team that dresses Savard isn't winning a playoff series, let alone making the playoffs. He's absolutely cooked. Habs fans are looking for gulluble GM who thinks the clock can be turned back for a playoff run.

Just FYI Habs fans dont know anything about western teams. The games here start at 11pm and are usually blacked out.

I need to spend a f***ton of money on a VPN, western Canada sports cable package, and 2 subscription services to catch Oiler games. There's no f***ing way in hell any Habs fans watch Oiler games.

So they're going off of lazy narratives from Toronto from hack writers who also don't watch West Conf games:

Oilers have an ECHL defense, and the worst Dman on a lottery team is going to somehow fix that.
