Oilers Trade Deadline Shopping List

Frederic is a PKer, multi-positional forward and more importantly, he's an NHL regular.

I agree that there's a risk with Frederic, who has whispers he may want to sign in St Louis in the summer. But the Oilers need to do what they can to find a way to get him signed.

As for Kostin, I'd be fine with him coming back on a league minimum deal. That's what he's worth today. And maybe he'll see it that way considering the only time he's looked like an NHL player has Ben in Edmonton.

That would be precisely the point, Kostin would likely sign for very cheap, which then frees up some cash to go to Frederic who likely will want a $250k-$500k/season premium to stay in Canada versus signing with a US team. Or we could use the cap saving elsewhere. For like $1 mill/year, I think there's a fair bet Kostin could outperform that deal if he can find his game again here.

Also Kostin could help out Podkolzin IMO. He's a happy go luck type of personality, think Pods needs that and Kostin could push Podkolzin into fighting/hitting more, when there's one guy on a line being physical it tends to draw the rest of the linemates into the mix.

That was the thought last offseason, yes Henrique hasn’t preformed up to expectations. A drop in production was expected due to a less offensive role compared to his time with the ducks.

Honestly Henrique is the guy that benefits the most indirectly from the Frederic trade.

After McLeod was traded, he's been forced to be the full time 3C. Last year Henrique found success (outside the SCF) playing with Drai down the stretch, and opened the playoffs on LW, playing with McDavid and Hyman. He hasn't gotten those extended looks this season, as they didn't have anyone else on the roster that could play the role. Well, RNH could, but swapping him and Henrique doesn't change much.

But now that they have Frederic here, and you can slot him in at centre and give Henrique a look on wing in the top 6.

The one solace I have in the Oilers flaws (and playing this shitty), is none of the teams are particularly strong this year.

These are among the weakest batch of playoff teams I can remember in recent history. None of the teams are really "elite".

Vegas and Dallas don't seem particularly dominant.
Avalanche are as mediocre as we are.
Jets and Caps seem like a mirage.

Panthers without Tkachuk I guess are the strongest / most battle-tested team?

Too many holes, not enough assets.
Still have to try. Team Is in the last year of the window and you know they will give it their all in the post season

Low key Tampa is the favourite IMO.

The Avs have Makar. We have.... well, a guy who tries to be Makar and another who gets paid like Makar.
We beat them 2/3 games this season.

They're not a massive tier above us. Yes they have Makar-Toews top pair. Also he plays TONS of minutes with MacKinnon on a loaded 5-man unit.

Makar+MacKinnon vs McDavid+Draisaitl

The elite talent across both teams are pretty interchangeable.
But their Bottom 4D, and Bottom 6F are somehow worse than ours / We have gongshow goaltending.

When they won the cup, they had Landeskog, Nuke, and Kadri putting up monster points and pushing everyone down the lineup.

Every team is massively flawed this year.

The Avs basically had their way with us the last time we played them. Their best beats our best. The way the Oilers are playing now I'm not sure they could even beat Anaheim.

....Oh.

I wouldn't say they "had their way with us".
Skinner let in 3 goals on 12 shots before being pulled.

I remember that game pretty clearly. Beat cleanly 5-hole on a shot from the circle he saw the entire way.
And a floaty wrister that beat him glove side.

Everyone lost their shit because those 2 were VERY save-able.

"Had their way with us" is pretty far from what happened. Even Knob said he should have saved those 2 in the post-game.. which was astonishingly the first time I can ever remember him calling out our goaltending.

Nah, if the Avs really wanted to they would've put up 10 on us. This is how teams operate. They know we're slow out of the gate. They pile it on early then just play defense for the rest of the game.

I watch videos of the team during the playoff run last year... That team would smoke this one. It's not even close.

Are we talking about the same game?
Skinner let in 3 goals on 12 shots, where we dominated the play.

We came back and managed to tie it 4-4 and then Necas broke the tie in the 3rd.

This always happens, we "dominate" then get scored on.

Avs saw us come back on them once, they weren't going to let it happen again.

They were never in danger of losing that game.

You'd think Skinner fans would be exhausted by now with all the mental gymnastics they need to perform in order to still defend the guy, though the TV and radio anal-cysts covering the team definitely help with that...

Dude should start a cult when his hockey career ends...which may be a lot sooner than we think if he keeps this up.

TDL week with this org is like shopping at Kmart. You wonder how this store exists and yet people keep going there.

Or Target, another good example.

Best thing to do this week is find something else to do but what do I know I'm not taking my own advice.
