Frederic is a PKer, multi-positional forward and more importantly, he's an NHL regular.
I agree that there's a risk with Frederic, who has whispers he may want to sign in St Louis in the summer. But the Oilers need to do what they can to find a way to get him signed.
As for Kostin, I'd be fine with him coming back on a league minimum deal. That's what he's worth today. And maybe he'll see it that way considering the only time he's looked like an NHL player has Ben in Edmonton.
That would be precisely the point, Kostin would likely sign for very cheap, which then frees up some cash to go to Frederic who likely will want a $250k-$500k/season premium to stay in Canada versus signing with a US team. Or we could use the cap saving elsewhere. For like $1 mill/year, I think there's a fair bet Kostin could outperform that deal if he can find his game again here.
Also Kostin could help out Podkolzin IMO. He's a happy go luck type of personality, think Pods needs that and Kostin could push Podkolzin into fighting/hitting more, when there's one guy on a line being physical it tends to draw the rest of the linemates into the mix.
