If Dickenson was healthy I'd have less trouble with this. Something tells me injuries will be commonplace and he seems to get injured easily for a player that has to be physical and strong on pucks. Decent player if healthy. He was far from what ailed us.
He doesn't really have a heavy injury history, a broken ankle blocking a shot could happen to anyone.

I'd be more concerned about a Murphy re-signing in that context. He's both older and notoriously injury prone prior to coming to Edmonton.

By my quick check, since they've been full timers in the league, Dickinson has appeared in ~85% of his teams games and Murphy ~84%. They're both set to miss ~10-15 games a season.

Loses a lot of the context of the types of injuries the players suffer.

Dickinson has mostly minor injuries that can be chalked up to just the normal wear and tear of playing hockey(shot blocking injuries, fight injuries etc). Murphy has suffered several serious ailments, including nearly yearly bouts on the injured reserve due to chronic groin injuries

Thought the contract was fair in a rising cap, but I just don’t understand why these idiots get in their own way with the NMCs? Lots of players sign without them, Dickinson wanted to play here. I’d have gone an extra million not to have trade protection. They learned nothing from the Henrique contract.

It’s really hard to be a fan of this team with non-intelligent management.

There are very few players who sign as UFA at this price point who don’t have some form of a NTC. It’s become the norm.

If they are healthy for playoffs that is all I care.

These are two Character guys and if we can move Nurse and add a top 6 FWD we won't be looking that bad

Bowman is obsequious, he should be saying “Jason, McDrai will be playing here in Edmonton next season, and there will be a 3C behind them on the depth chart getting his ass carried into the playoffs. We would like that to be you, but the budget is 3.5M, and we don’t give NMCs to bottom 6ers. So are you getting your ass carried to glory or are you and your agent going to go grovelling around the UFA market with hat in hand hoping some shithole basement dwellers like Vancouver or Calgary will give you a bigger signing bonus? Your call.”

I wonder what Boone Jenner will get? If he signs for less term or AAv or no nmc, yikes

Bowman is the guy who brags about his girlfriend being a Victoria Secret model type even though really she's objectively like a 6 at best.

Dude falls in love with every player he trades for.

He has no concept of sunk cost and cutting losses. 5 years is way too long and only savings grave is the window will be closed 5th year.

This is the reality the signing. Bowman spent a 1st round pick in the trade to acquire this player and doesn't want to be seen as wasting that asset.

So instead he compounds the problem with a horrible contract for a bit player.

That’s my concern too. I don’t know if he’s injury prone, got a puck to the ankle. But breaking your ankle at 30 is probably gonna affect the skating, I hope not because that’s kinda his strength.

I wonder if Bowman got word that McMann was extending, timing is pretty close. They’re different players but I’d rather spend a little more for a guy that would help our 1st line and cornerstone player.

I really wonder what Jenner gets.. McMann signing for less than 6 is a little surprising, might see Jenner get a similar deal.
