Does anyone remember Ty Rattie? Pre season means nothing. Perlini had 16 points in 21 games in the swiss league last season. Linus Omark had 61 in 49 games... Everything points to him being a tweener at best.

If Perlini continues to score goals, it opens up the potential to at least try running RNH at centre and having three scoring lines.

Hyman-McDavid-Puljujarvi
Foegele-Draisaitl-Yamamoto
Perlini-RNH-Kassian

With tweeners like Foegele, Kassian, and Perlini, there’s a lot of mix-and-match potential. I hope both Foegele and Perlini get some chances to play on scoring lines.

He’s scored less than 14 goals precisely once in his career, and it was on an absolute dumpster fire Detroit team. For his first 3 seasons, he scored at a rate of 19 goals per 82 games. It wouldn’t shock me in the slightest if he keeps it up

Perlini is scoring goals on a line with bottom 6 players, not with McDrai like Ty Rattie

Good point.

It's true that fans place too much emphasis on pre-season games but its also true that if you can't score in the pre-season against AHL laden rosters then you probably won't do too well when the shooting starts for real. That probably says something about Perlini's competition for the bottom six roster spots. They haven't been exactly overwhelming.

Perlini also has a track record of scoring goals in the NHL.

Hmm the Porche Perlini has been playing quite well but it is too soon to tell.
Pre season is practice mode and It only gets harder as the season progresses.

That being said. Give him a shot.
Hyman - mcdavid - Puljujarvi
Perlini/Perlini - Drasaitl - Kassian
Foegele/Perlini - Nuge - Yamamoto

One thing that needs to be said. He is not well suited to the bottom 6 and while so far has done well in the preseason it will be interesting if his traditional lack of defensive awareness bites the team in the ass during the regular season.

A quote from him, "I just came in to camp and am concentrating on playing my game".

A quote from a coach this preseason, "I hate it when a player comes into camp saying they want to play their game. It's the worst thing you can say in training camp. If they can't play/succeed within the teams/nhls game they won't be good for the team."

Paraphrasing the quotes.

Having said that I have him penciled in on our light duty 4th line with Shore and McLeod.

He is scoring like a Top 6 player but he'll end up in the bottom 6 and won't be relied upon for scoring.

It's the classic tweener problem to my eyes.

I'm really impressed I feel he has cemented himself a spot in training camp and that was no easy task. However, I don't see him moving into the Top 6. We (including me) all like him becuase he is scoring every game. That will fade away by week 2 of the NHL season. OR he cements himself in the top 6 and scores 30 goals and is the best offseason signing in Oil history. I'm going with the latter.

How about Fernando Pisani as a comp? He was a late bloomer. Local hero. Someone else mentioned Pisani the other day and I can't recall who it was.

Hope he takes Kassian spot.

Watching Kass forecheck 4 seconds too late is getting tiresome. Like watching Lucic all over again

One of the most skilled players on the team. But you need more than skill in the NHL. Still, if he can think the game a little better, he'll have himself a nice NHL career. I like his chances here.

The way he’s playing, I wonder if it’s possible to give him a look in the top 6. I want to see what he can do with Drai and Nuge. He’s been extremely impressive. But being a LW I’m not sure if there is a fit there.

Perlini is a bit bigger than Rattie. Hopefully a betrer skater (havent seen).
Omark is a superstar against lesser competition, hard to simplify the game at hugh pro level. At national team level he was always the best player when playing vs smaller hockey countries -not goodenough when playing vs Canada or Russia

Perlini is a pretty intriguing player, and he's played really well. that said, I'm not sure he makes this team. His skillset is great, but I don't think he can think like a top 6 forward. He could be a great player on a lower line with a long career if he can keep his game simple. I'm not saying he hasn't, I'm just saying that is likely what he will have to do.

I'm rooting for him over Benson.
