The NHL gave them a nice home stand and they are taking advantage. 1 short flight to Winnipeg, and the rest at home over 3 weeks.

Or Connor McDavid is just good at hockey. They had plenty of home games early in the season and were shit then.

After tonight's game, McDavid is now 3rd in all-time pts/g

Gretzky
Lemiuex
McDavid

Bumps Bossy out of 3rd place.

Matches the eye test as I've seen all three of them play in their primes.

He's the best talent since Gretz/Mario.

So what is PP% on this streak? Have said the tipping point Oilers win vs lose is around 30%.

Guessing it's clicking pretty well again

44%... 6% higher than second, Dallas who's only .500 team since Nov 23, and 14.4.% higher than 3rd place rangers.

Are also second in PK%, 96.2%, with the flyers at 96.4%. 3rd place being 91.7%.

Their GF/g is first, 4.75, to Detroit's 4.1. Their GA/g is 1st with 1.63, to Jets 1.75.

That is pretty amazing to do in this era. Doing 80's type things in 2023.

When you consider 80s/early 90s goaltending is arguably below the level of AHL play ... it's incredible. He's doing this against way, way better defenses, way better coaching, and against actual defensive structure. 80s was entertaining but it was pond hockey with terrible goaltending.

I think they get 6 days off between east coast and west coast legs don't they?
And all teams will get a couple of days off for Xmas

5. But still not the easiest thing to go 2 times zones ahead and then 3 back all while Christmasing etc....

12 back of Van with 3 games in hand isn't that big of a hole with almost 60 games to play.

eh

there's still a similar difference in point percentages so far this year between Vancouver and Edmonton as there is between Edmonton and San Jose even with Edmonton on an active 8 game winning streak

Can I ask what website you use to track these stats, out of curiosity?

McDavid being back to full health brought back the supernova PP. The other pieces are still important in terms of utilizing that, but so much of the powerplay depends on McDavid's ability to create space for his teammates.

You probably won't catch van. They have 3 players in top 10 for points, 1 player for tops in goals, 2 top defenseman in top 10 for points and a goalie in top 10. Even with Foilers fans and rest of HFboard praying for Canucks to collapse, they haven't and that is with injuries to Soucy and Suter the top PKers. Good luck catching them. Oilers will eventually slow down too. They won't win every game and will need to start Campbell at some point or risk Skinner to injury

Did you know the Oilers won a cup WITHOUT Gretzky?

Sure, as anyone would with such a horrid W/L to start the year. Oiler's aren't even close to being done seeing regression to the mean. Their underlying stats are the best in the entire league and they have the best player in the world. They'll surpass 100 points this year without question.

Vancouver has been looking human in games at times, but regardless they're finding ways to win. Assuming they and us make the playoffs, they're a team I would rather not face. Mostly because of Demko, but they're just a well-rounded team honestly. LA and Vegas no slouches either obviously. Honestly it might be a blessing if the Oilers squeak in as a wildcard and go into the Central Division bracket. Colorado is of course elite, but outside of Colorado I think Edmonton matches well with the rest of that division.

I think Edmonton can beat anyone and can also lose to anyone in a first round series

You never know which Skinner you gonna get every night

Hang on to that feeling!

They need a reliable #2 to step in and provide skinner level play when skinner plays like Jack Campbell.

Not sure Jake Allen is the answer this year but he would have been the answer two years ago.

They need a guy like that.
