Post-Game Talk: Oilers lose Duck Hunt

It's amazing how ass this forward group is at driving to the net or creating offense below the faceoff circles. Even the Oiler's odd man rush game where most teams create the majority of their offense is more or less dead with this group, they can't even execute 2 on 1s with any degree of competency, not that they create those much anymore.

Team takes the most shots of any team in the NHL, and it's all hail mary point shots because the entire offensive gameplan is based around tip-ins.
I think I saw so many players go down the wing (while having a step around the Dman) and then suddenly just button hooking and passing back to the point.

Brown does this so much its beyond annoying. You have a step on the f***ing Dman. ATTACK THE NET AND CREATE HAVOC

Agreed. I don't know why Brown was on the PP more than Arvi
To his credit, Brown plays smart positional hockey but the hands just aren't there.

It will be an interesting off-season in terms of how many of these guys they keep around. Realistically, you can't torpedo all of them because there just aren't many NHL prospects in the pipeline.

What has happened to Janmark??? Since he signed that 3 year contract his offense has gone to sub zero temperature.

Apathy is starting to set in for me. This is one of the worst collection of players top to bottom during the prime McDrai era. Either too old, too slow, too dumb or not talented enough collected into one gigantic pile of trash by the 2 clowns in management. Or should I say mismamagement

The Oilers have 44% of their cap hit sitting on IR right now, this is not at all surprising. This would be like them sitting on a $50MM cap.

What on earth are you watching. This hatred for Walman is hilariously stupid. Some people really need to lay off alcohol during gamedays lmfao
Where is the hatred? Stecher has been great and Walman fumbled the puck a few times. Doesn't mean you hate Walman if you praise Stecher

I don’t want to any of them to come prematurely. We already did that with Frederic. How did that work out?
Agreed but the Flames just don't want to go away. They had a very strong 3rd period tonight. Might have to give Drai an injection of something to get 4 points and the playoff spot.

Looks like the Oilers (in point terms) will probably finish 7th or 8th in the Western conference.

Lol @ the coach bashing

The man is 90-45-10 in regulat season and even better in playoffs. All of it with Skinner/Campbell/pickard as the goalies and Bouchard, Nurse as top 3 Dmen.

Jeff Skinner would pass through waivers if he didn't have a NMC. Using him to justify Knoblauch firing is laughable. Tonight only Nuge, Hyman and Henrique played more shifts than Skinner for forwards.. He was given PP time and was on the ice with our goalies pulled.
People don't want to here it but theres no NHL coach ever that has liked Jeff Skinner. Most posters don't spot why. This guy has never had the trust of one NHL Coach. This is falling in line with what I'd expected.

Skinner had a few good production games and half the board thinking he's some sort of can't miss here. The guy has 26pts this season. He's not the reason you win or lose and he never has impacted in that way as a player.

Knob with another brutal decision to bench Skinner for Connor Brown. He’s really stinking it up coaching.
He must have benched Arvidsson too considering both had the same TOI tonight. Knob must have benched all others who had less TOI than Skinner.

I don't know, seems about right to me.
It's McDavid, Draisaitl and mostly guys on the backside of or past their prime so it's not surprising that a bunch of regression is happening. The two biggest factors are Bouchard and Skinner with major regressions (yes, Skinner was clearly better last season) and Ekholm not being right most of the season which is the main reason why Bouchard has fallen off drastically., something to keep in mind during contract negotiations.

The supporting cast is worse but those 3 are the biggest departures from their play of last season. Ekholm is perhaps hitting an age wall along with other factors this season and the latter two just plain suck this season. McDavid hasn't been right either but he's been good enough to not be a detriment.

1:46 here @Cloned I need help
You’re a Lions fan so yes you do need help.

One possitive is EVERYONE gets moved down 3 places if we are fully healthy on forward. And down 1 on Defense. We will have the best 4th line in the league because we have 7 guys to pick from. 😆

Doesn't matter.
We just need to finish ahead of MIN or CGY which we should. I actually want Flames to beat out MIN.

In theory we should have a bottom 6 when fully healthy but 2/6 of them will be playing after big injuries and the only good one left out of them is Perry lol.

I don't have an issue with Skinner, he is of same tier as Kapanen, Janmark, Perry Podkolzin, Arvidsson etc. Useful but with flaws. I will just take this coach over everyone even if starts to supposed unfaitly 'bench' Nuge and Hyman.

Hes pretty weak on the puck. Makes some good plays but over all pretty soft and loses possession a lot. I would trade our 2nd and Skinner for Holloway. Oh wait you mean we could have had both anyway?

Close but no Ciger.

Ol Zdeno Cíger had a career 14.1 career shooting percentage. This team with and without its super elites are a bottom third league shooting team. They are bottom heavy with third and fourth line player types.
Can't out score their mistakes which continues to be an issue that is usually magnified in tighter playoff series hockey.

Made it interesting at the end. But failed to take points when the Kings slipped on a banana tonight.

None of the roster changes have really clicked for this team.

Skinner wasn't benched

Podz, Kap, and Jones were the guys getting their shifts cut in the third.
Kap gave away the puck on the 3-1 goal so I could see that happening. Unexcusable mistake there, especially for a player not cashing shit and only in the lineup to try to be low event. Jones should be in AHL, why is he even here? Oh I know, our manager went out and got him.. Pods was probably missing some shifts due to still being hurt.

Skinner has considerably more offensive talent than Kapanen and Janmark. Unless you are talking about Stu.

Walman has been very good but I thought he had a bad game tonight. I have not been a Stecher fan ever but he's been playing the best I've seen him as an oiler. I think he stays in over Emberson and depending on the games Klingberg

For sure. Like I've said all year watch him against clubs actually that are decent and bringing even a modicum of checking and coverage. When a good opponent is in to the game J Skinner is shutdown, and theres nothing else about the player. The only reason you even have him is some scoring.

J Skinner is kind of a throwback, in a bad, way, from different eras where a guy could be just a goal scorer and little else. But in the NHL of 2025 you're expected to be able to play. He doesn't survive board battles well, had trouble n the WC working through traffic (another thing I wondered)

I'm hardpressed to think this guy is going to be much help in playoffs. Of course theres no precedent for it.
