Post-Game Talk: Oilers lose Duck Hunt

It's St. Louis next. We need one of McDavid or Leon next game. Please, for goodness sakes, can Ekholm start playing again!

It's amazing how ass this forward group is at driving to the net or creating offense below the faceoff circles. Even the Oiler's odd man rush game where most teams create the majority of their offense is more or less dead with this group, they can't even execute 2 on 1s with any degree of competency, not that they create those much anymore.

Team takes the most shots of any team in the NHL, and it's all hail mary point shots because the entire offensive gameplan is based around tip-ins.

We actually outhit the Ducks, and as strange as it sounds, we have just an awful record this year in games that we outhit the other team. I thought there was enough of a pushback, Perry and Nurse both got shots in on Gudas. Last thing I wanted to see this time of the year was Nurse break his hand in a meaningless fight against a useless plug.
Nurse won’t have to worry about breaking his hand if some goof takes out McDrai. And when Perry got drilled, who jumped in?

I want to point out one thing. If the Oilers didn't have Drai with a monster game against the Flames the teams would be separated by only 2pts right now. That basically tells you what an absolute ASS season this has been.

5 games left and not even a playoff spot mathematically secured.
We're not falling out but this team isn't inspiring confidence going into the playoffs.

1-3 against the Ducks this year. Gross.

Oh I know. But what a shitstorm. The club HAD to bring Drai back from injury to get a couple W's down the road to avoid an even worse situation, and potentially cataclysmic one. REally the team was so shit without Drai we might have spiralled right out.

Yep. I said it before, if we lost that Calgary game we would have been in severe risk of missing the playoffs and that does appear like it was the case. Even then. The fact that Calgary is only 6 points back of us with 5 games left in the season? Just unacceptable.

Biggest disappointment for me tonight was the lack of an immediate response on Gudas. That and our shooting percentage. Very disappointing. And our coaching. That was disappointing. Well, Bouchard was disappointing as well but that’s become expected. RNH was disappointing. Cant spell disappointment without Brown.

Sigh.

Lots to be disappointed in.

But the cavalry is coming!

Knob with another brutal decision to bench Skinner for Connor Brown. He’s really stinking it up coaching.

The cavalry are watching this sorry lot of a club. Thats a problem too. Would be IMPOSSIBLE to escape the reality that 75% of this club just ain't much and this is an awful forward lineup.

This is not exactly inspiring for the guys coming back.

None of these coaches have been that great. Jackson f***ed up the team but this team is better on paper than the results (aside from goaltending)
I don't know, seems about right to me.
It's McDavid, Draisaitl and mostly guys on the backside of or past their prime so it's not surprising that a bunch of regression is happening. The two biggest factors are Bouchard and Skinner with major regressions (yes, Skinner was clearly better last season) and Ekholm not being right most of the season which is the main reason why Bouchard has fallen off drastically., something to keep in mind during contract negotiations.

The supporting cast is worse but those 3 are the biggest departures from their play of last season. Ekholm is perhaps hitting an age wall along with other factors this season and the latter two just plain suck this season. McDavid hasn't been right either but he's been good enough to not be a detriment.

1:46 here @Cloned I need help

Lol @ the coach bashing

The man is 90-45-10 in regulat season and even better in playoffs. All of it with Skinner/Campbell/pickard as the goalies and Bouchard, Nurse as top 3 Dmen.

Jeff Skinner would pass through waivers if he didn't have a NMC. Using him to justify Knoblauch firing is laughable. Tonight only Nuge, Hyman and Henrique played more shifts than Skinner for forwards.. He was given PP time and was on the ice with our goalies pulled.
