Post-Game Talk: Oilers lose 4-0 to Coyotes

Rather bad game. I'm sure the anti- Hall/Yak/Remenda crowd will be well covered, so I'll get the RNH angle -

RNH comes back from injury, and the Oilers play their worst game in a couple of weeks. Coincidence? I think not!

The old core is toxic!

No OEL? No problem. Cause Oilers.

Another night where I wish I had the three hours back. Couldn't see anything positive in that game aside from the play of Oesterle. Just a vomit inducing performance.
Like the celebration from Mike Smith. You're a ****ing clown buddy.
wtf do you have against Mike Smith?
As I said, 400 NHL games and .915 career on one of the worst teams in the league is no AllStar, but its not 'clown' either.

hmm, odd game... we were, by far, the best team in the 1st period, yet are down 1-0... then we are at least on par with arizona the rest of the way, and get scored on 3 more times

just an odd game... i don't understand everybody complaining ... the chances were easily 20-10, and i'm not sure that arizona had 10 chances

oh well

Smith played very good tonight.

meh....so crash the net.....

who crashed the net? Cracknell on a breakaway. Maybe Maroon once or twice.

Sure it could have been a closer game but its still a bit of a reminder of a mentally weak team folding and playing with no urgency.

They had a great start though....and yes they have no defense.

I don't think he's very good and he was a major reason why the Coyotes were so awful last year.

They never adapted well to Smith handling all the dump ins. I know it is a skill goalies have honed, but it sure makes hockey games boring to watch.

Let's be honest. You crash the net against Smith and he dives and they either call off any goal scored or you play short handed.

WhyTF is Nikki Facepalm Nikitin still at this level. I do not understand this move from management to continue to play this sputnik clown. Every game he plays he amazes all of us, just like McDavid does, but on the opposite side of the spectrum.
All over Edmonton there are weekend shinny players that will literally play that position better than goofball mcgee. And to think this clown is gettin' paid this year what most of us wouldn't even make in a lifetime is the biggest joke yet.
Every time I see that he is dressed, I'm spending my time elsewhere to avoid guaranteed disappointment and vein popping rage.

Also Clendening, haven't been impressed yet, and I can clearly see why he was put on waivers. But of course any of the 29 teams trash is surely Oiler treausre.

I'd rather dress Brad Hunt than Tweedledee and Tweedledum. Even give LeLaggia or Simpson a go, why not. Give them a taste so they can get motivated for a good productive summer.

Love what Chia and co are doing, but this move with Niki and Clendening is baffling

Oesterle looked ok.

I was concerned he looks kind of small but he battled with Hanzel in the corner one shift and did well. Maybe he can develop into something..

If you can't score against the Coyotes without OEL then you shouldn't even be in the NHL as far as I'm concerned

That yak penalty was hilarious. When you're a welfare team bleeding money left and right, you need all of the help you can get.

Bro that kind of talk isn't necessary. That welfare team and their players are not at fault. At least they try and they do their best.

You got beat by another team, take it as that.

The Oilers are 0-1 for games on March 12, 2016 in which Taylor Hall has played. Trade this bum. :-P

Just to make sure this topic stays fresh.

a) I was on the trade Hall train before it was cool.
b) I think Hall has been our best forward this year even if his play has gone of the deep end post-all star break.
c) I think he has been one of the forwards that has played Todds system well for the most part.
d) When the team is losing....his game looks ugly to me.
e) I would trade any of our wingers for a decent defender and try and replace him with Loui Eriksson.

Smith played very good tonight.

Another psoter in the game thread said he's not as bad as everyone thinks.

I have always thought the same thing. He had an off year last year for sure but for the vast majority of his time in Phoenix, he has been solid.

I don't buy the "He only looks good because of Tippet's trap system, he'd be garbage anywhere else" argument. He sees just as much rubber as any other NHL goalie, which is around 1900 shots per season with 60+ starts. He's a big guy that fills the net and is solid in his positioning.

The Oilers aren't the only team that have trouble scoring on him, but tonight there was no excuse for letting him pitch a shutout with this being his first game in 3 months, Phoenix playing back to back and as someone else said their 3rd game in 4 nights.

This team is the free space on the bingo card for supposedly tired teams coming in.
