Oilers interested in hiring Mike Babcock

Stauffer works for the oilers and he is spinning, Some believe everything he says. I think he just buying time for 12 months until the oilers can sign him or trade him, If teams know he wont sign with the oilers? They may just bide their time till he is a UFA
Everytime i see the name Bob Stauffer, i can't help myself and think of this guy. Bagdad Bob indeed 🤣

Oiler fans are hoping he is not reinstated

I think the Oilers are looking for some kind of public relations off-ramp. If the investigation goes poorly for Babcock, they can back out and blame it on the NHL's findings. Or if it goes well, they can say that Babcock got the NHL's seal of approval and use it to support the hire.

Auston Matthews never competed harder in his entire life than he did during the 2019 playoffs, when Mike Babcock was his coach.

Babcock basically worked a miracle when getting that toxic heartless player to actually play some inspired competitive playoff hockey.

Perhaps because Babcock makes players accountable?

Oilers fan, not a fan of the hiring, I think Babcock is a bully, a terrible person and overall piece of shit. Not a leader, which a coach should be. I grew up hating Dallas and Modano. The fact he stole Modano of 1500 games makes me not want this guy to coach in pee wee, let alone in the National League.

That said, f*** it, hire the guy. He's a good coach. He has a great hockey mind. He can get the best out of players, albeit in the worst way possible. Hopefully he can win a cup and the f*** off never to be seen or heard of again.

NHL doesn't like it? f*** off. NHLPA doesn't like it? f*** off.

Vegas doesn't let their FIRED coach get a new job? NHL lets it happen.
Player accused and albeit not convicted, but we can all agree some f***ed up shit happened in that hotel room, regardless, players allowed back in NHL & AHL to play?

But a hardass, bully coach, somehow "banned"? He was never charged, convicted etc. of any offense. If being an asshole is suddenly illegal in this league, shut it down, because their aren't enough people left to run it, let alone play in it.

Look, I don't think it's "right" that Babcock gets to coach in this league again. I also don't think it's "right" that Vegas doesn't allow a coach they fired to get another job. I don't think it's "right" that hockey players, although not criminally guilty of a pretty horrific act get to play in this league again. It's not "right" that Bowman is a GM or Quenneville is a coach again! I get it, these are not all the same. That said, this league has lost all credibility of being a morally correct organization years ago. (If they had it at all)

Hockey players, coaches, teams and even the league are far from role models. (Too be fair, as individuals, some are, for example, Travis Dermott who defined the pride tape ban, exemplary human being, IMO). Overall they are employee's and employers with one job, to win. Vegas didn't hesitate to sign Carter Hart who has marginal moral history at best. The Duck's didn't apologize for hiring a coach who turned a blind eye to sexual assault. Edmonton didn't turn a hesitate to hiring a GM who turned a blind eye to sexual assault. Let alone Dany Heatley and Craig Mactavish who both literally killed someone. Todd Bertuzzi who almost killed someone at center ice in an act of revenge. Go back thru the decades and there are multi example's of terrible human beings, or human being's doing terrible things and continuing to have a career in this league.

It's professional sports. Not a moral compass. I'm not saying that it is right or the way it should be, but that's the way it is, has always been and most likely, will always be.

Multiple former NHL players have basically said the same thing, Babcock is the worst person they have ever met.

That isn't some coincidence. When multiple people think this, you know the person is an awful human being.

I still can't believe people are hung up about Modano's games played. Dude was injured half the year. Babcock doesn't have to play anyone for their feelings. He's not the first coach to sit a guy that maybe should have played. The fact he also blasted Mike Commodore is hilarious. He's not a good defenseman. Babcock doesn't owe him anything, either.
Detroit had 104 points that year and Babcock sat Modano for exactly one game coming down the stretch knowing that would prevent him from getting 1500. When you consider what Babcock did to Spezza where he sat him first game in his hometown Toronto when Babs knew Spezza had bought tickets for his family and then played him the game after, it definitely seems like he just enjoys screwing with people.

Do you actually know this? And what do you know it from? Are you sure it's not just different players interpreting the same thing differently? "Here let's put family photos up on the screen" could lead to both interpretations.
It was reported that one of the younger players (rumoured to be fantilli) was invited to Babcocks actual home and Babcock was holding the players phone in his hand while he looked through it for an uncomfortable amount of time. This was apparently different than what happened with the vets.
