Oilers fan, not a fan of the hiring, I think Babcock is a bully, a terrible person and overall piece of shit. Not a leader, which a coach should be. I grew up hating Dallas and Modano. The fact he stole Modano of 1500 games makes me not want this guy to coach in pee wee, let alone in the National League.
That said, f*** it, hire the guy. He's a good coach. He has a great hockey mind. He can get the best out of players, albeit in the worst way possible. Hopefully he can win a cup and the f*** off never to be seen or heard of again.
NHL doesn't like it? f*** off. NHLPA doesn't like it? f*** off.
Vegas doesn't let their FIRED coach get a new job? NHL lets it happen.
Player accused and albeit not convicted, but we can all agree some f***ed up shit happened in that hotel room, regardless, players allowed back in NHL & AHL to play?
But a hardass, bully coach, somehow "banned"? He was never charged, convicted etc. of any offense. If being an asshole is suddenly illegal in this league, shut it down, because their aren't enough people left to run it, let alone play in it.
Look, I don't think it's "right" that Babcock gets to coach in this league again. I also don't think it's "right" that Vegas doesn't allow a coach they fired to get another job. I don't think it's "right" that hockey players, although not criminally guilty of a pretty horrific act get to play in this league again. It's not "right" that Bowman is a GM or Quenneville is a coach again! I get it, these are not all the same. That said, this league has lost all credibility of being a morally correct organization years ago. (If they had it at all)
Hockey players, coaches, teams and even the league are far from role models. (Too be fair, as individuals, some are, for example, Travis Dermott who defined the pride tape ban, exemplary human being, IMO). Overall they are employee's and employers with one job, to win. Vegas didn't hesitate to sign Carter Hart who has marginal moral history at best. The Duck's didn't apologize for hiring a coach who turned a blind eye to sexual assault. Edmonton didn't turn a hesitate to hiring a GM who turned a blind eye to sexual assault. Let alone Dany Heatley and
Craig Mactavish who both literally killed someone. Todd Bertuzzi who almost killed someone at center ice in an act of revenge. Go back thru the decades and there are multi example's of terrible human beings, or human being's doing terrible things and continuing to have a career in this league.
It's professional sports. Not a moral compass. I'm not saying that it is right or the way it should be, but that's the way it is, has always been and most likely, will always be.
