No you can’t guarantee that. He was a free agent. A RFA but still a free agent.

His agent has come out and said they had multiple other offer sheets he had negotiated lined up. Sounds like Broberg got his wish and got out of Edmonton.

Yeah, I think people are forgetting that Broberg didn't want to be an Oiler. The guy requested a trade this season and then signed an offer sheet. Nothing pointed to him being open to signing a friendly deal with us.

The Blues offered him a contract he would've been stupid to refuse, but I still fully believe the Oilers could've gotten him to sign for something more reasonable.

Of course, none of that changes the fact that Nurse is still grossly overpaid and a huge cap anchor. Hopefully whoever his partner is this season can pick up the slack.

Brown and Stecher cast off sure. Emberson I don't think is one. IMHO Ceci will probably get them a 2nd or a 3rd at the deadline and we added to him.
I am starting to wonder if Emberson was a target more than just a piece back.
I’m totally fine with emberson, I just hope the plan is not top 4 mins and the oilers find an upgrade on the second pairing with nurse. Because stetcher is a 6/7 aswell

nah it sucks...Desharnais and Ceci are gone, replaced with Yotes and SJ Sharks castoffs
Let's not pretend that either were amazing players here. We lost our #4 defenseman who wasn't good a lot of the time, and a PK specialist #6/#7 who we had to sit in the playoffs because he couldn't keep up. Those Yote and Shark castoffs are probably as good as VD is now. It's the #2 RD we need to fill, and hopefully we can do something to upgrade on Ceci there. It's nerve-wracking not having that hole filled though, that's for sure.

You can't accrue cap space if you are going into LTIR room. Only can accrue when you are under the cap without using any LTIR room. Like we are right now.
The smart long play here by Stan and crew. It stings a little, but they did a great job of finding replacements that fit positional needs and our cap space. Overall well done.

Of course you can create any narrative to support whatever you want to believe. The facts say you’re wrong.

You continually add in irrelevant talking points to try to win discussions. It’s entertaining

Yes Nurse is grossly overpaid. He needs a partner that is able to cover up his weaknesses much better than Ceci could. Ceci might have been the worst possible partner imaginable for Nurse.

It sucks and its unfortunate that our team is worse today but looking around the league there isn't much to be done yet. Just hope someone actually better than Ceci shakes loose at the deadline.

fans wanted an UPGRADE on Ceci, not a downgrade

this isn't hard to grasp

Immediate gratification is something that is hard to get over.

The Oilers do not need an upgrade on Ceci immediately. If you can't see how this doesn't allow them to make the upgrade on Ceci later on down the line instead of needing it RIGHT NOW, not sure what to tell you.

I guess the one thing we’ve learned throughout this entire thing, is that there is no other organization in the NHL that’s better at asset management than the Edmonton Oilers.
