Skinner named second star. What?

Hopefully more of these games can convince our management to get serious about a goalie.

The crew is talking about Skinner playing better lately, while he has a .890 save percentage. Since when is that considered good?
This is what they are talking about. Skinner let's in one goal on a 2 on 1 giveaway at the offensive blue line and we dint score a goal and that is what you are whining about? Wow

When I saw Brown in the top 6 tonight I had a hunch I would be reading the above post but have to agree. He just doesn't have the hands. Gets chances because he's good at positioning himself but I wish the coaching staff would recognize that the finishing skill isn't there.
This season brown is a nice 25-30 point player that is great on the PK. Value there but he’s not a top 6 player.

The coaching staff has been terrible at getting the most out of a forward group that is absolutely stacked on paper. When practically every forward on the roster is on pace for a career low then the problem is probably deeper than just a player going cold.

You have to wonder why they would spend $3M on the guy in order to have him in the bottom 6. I think though that his positional play the last few games has been strong.

Mr. Brown has a big cheering section in the Oiler organization but the results are decidedly subpar.
Skinner played maybe his best game as an Oiler but still at that demonstrated why its much harder to score on a contending team in a serious game. He had a wide open path to net on a gorgeous sequence, but got beat off the puck, prevented from getting a shot off by desperate defending. In Buffalo he scores that goal against weak defending and his team still loses 5-2. Thats the thing. Far less non contested plays will occur since he's an Oiler. Its going to be harder to score and he showed why tonight multiple times. he got the looks. But he also got blocked, removed from puck, bounced, contained, etc. A goal scorer thats only played on bad clubs is having to find his way through tight coverage and learning how to score on a contender. Making it more difficult he's not a really strong player, he can be contained.

Conversely even though Nuge blew several chances I credit him for winning a battle against Knights best defender and getting the shot off right beside the crease. He clowned Petro on that one but Hill had the last laugh. Skinner wouldn't even win that stick battle.

Skinner doesn't go to the dirty areas, doesn't forecheck well, doesn't skate well and quite frankly thought he was here for the ride instead of trying to drive the bus once in a while. Hes a deer caught looking at a headlight and just can't recover. He is what he is.
Kind of an odd night to post this when he was consistently creating chances all night. I think when he plays like he did tonight he can be effective in the top 6 or bottom 6. He was using his lateral skating to carry pucks into quality shooting areas and he was passing pucks off a lot better. Sometimes he holds onto pucks too much and tries to do it himself, but not at all tonight and that's why he looked very effective. If he can utilize his line mates more I think he'll have a good second half and find a role somewhere in the lineup.

The league clearly wants this style, it's the only thing that makes sense. They can't accept that they're a niche sport. The league would never admit that there are too many teams, so they allow this kind of bullshit to stop 4th liners from being embarrassed.
Is it that?

First the Skinner fine and now we get f***ed by Refs. Have a feeling something pissed off Colin Campbell.

Not concerned, Oilers continue to run every team out of the rink. Once they're firing on all cylinders they're going to be better than last year's team, and significantly. Hyman and Arvidsson back makes a big difference, Skinner will move back up the lineup too and get it going. I think they kept him with Henrique and Janmark because they were legitimately good tonight, but when healthy move him up into the top six and put Nuge with Kane and someone else.

Skinner is recovering in net, has looked good for 5 straight. Tough break tonight but Oilers will win a ton of games if he keeps playing this way.

The % on the graphic was “lately” at an .890. I can’t remember exactly but it was probably the last 10 games.
You are so out to lunch you don't know which way is up. His overall sv % is 890 including all those bad games for the team at the beginning.

I don't care....I laugh when people blame him every time a goal is scored
he isn't the main concern IMO...this team gets "goalied" far too often and have been shutout 4 times already this year...it's game 25
He isn’t the main concern?
He definitely is.

His stats have been abysmal the last year, the teams been winning in spite of him and not because of him

Well yeah, why would you cheat for offense if you don't have to? It's called responsible hockey.
lol the Knights turned the puck over something like 58X tonight. They were constantly turning pucks over in NZ, something you're not supposed to do. Vegas tons of times turned pucks over with full control and with McD or Drai on ice. They were so bad with the puck tonight it was laughable.

Of course you'll focus all night on what the Oilers didn't do despite the Oilers dominating.

Be honest, if the Oilers win this game 2-1 you're not even here posting.

I was referencing the graphic the broadcast showed of the last 7 games being .890.

Not some cherry picked bullshit that picks 7 of the last 12. What types of nonsense is that graphic you posted.

The main issue is he shouldn't be in a bottom 6 spot over Top 6 Connor fricken Brown. Skinner has his warts, but this team kept whining about needing top 6 scoring NHL wingers, and they literally have one but won't utilize him properly. Do they need to go back to the Yamamotos, the Puljujarvis, the Athanasious of the worlds to realize how f***ing slow they are? That's my annoyance.

Yes, killing penalties is all about positioning and he does well there but he's just not a top 6 guy.

Whos driving the net ? RNH ? Skinner ? Corey "2mph" Perry ? All our net drivers were waxed by Jackson in the offseason.

Now we have a bunch of small slow fairies as wingers.

Hyman, Arvidsson (RIP), Podkolzin, Janmark is fast enough to. It's a mentality, and you're right that none of them have it now. Even Perry has turned into a soft drop pass legend.

The bolded x1000

This forward corps is massively underperforming, and some here would have us believe they all just magically suck now.

Where’s the other 5 games? I wonder why those numbers aren’t listed

Like yeah it wasn't a great goal but come on, you can't get shutout against that team.

I really don't want to face the Knights in the playoffs again.
We needed a goal. Simple as that. Didn’t get it. Listening to the post game, same shit is said. Team knows they need to execute better. Let’s see how Knob adjusts cause we will be seeing this same game in the playoffs and we need to find more ways to score. That or our wingers need to up their execution. Connor Brown whiffs the best chance we have all game off of us breaking down Vegas D for that one play.

Adin Hill is just a problem for this group. He will outplay Skinner 9/10 games even when Skinner plays well, he plays even better. Our forwards have problems with him.

Even in the first game against Vegas, our 1st goal was a wonky weird play where Kulak some how was net front and tipped in a Nurse shot (lol), and then Hyman got a fluke goal off a bounce off the boards and that was it.

We've scored zero legit goals against this guy and we've had like maybe 1 good offensive game against him in like the last 7 or 8 games we've played against him. Ever since he came in for Broissoit in the 2023 playoffs he's been lights out against us.

Starts with the way they play and the way everyone defers to McDrai and rolls the red carpet for them. How about this coach plays another pairing besides Ekholm-Bouchard with the top line and actually spreads the wealth a little. Also, give the second PP unit some time.

He’s also scored 30 goals 6 times. The fact a waiver claim who had 20 goals once 5 years ago is getting more top 6 looks is baffling.
Not really. Most purist coaches are stubborn on player commitment. So what Jeff Skinner played well tonight in game 24. He got a fair amount of minutes and chances and was nullified on every one. Kapanen is actually stronger on pucks and maybe even better at playing with sublime talent, and Kapanen has only been here 5 games and has had about as many good games as Skinner has. J Skinner has never had a coach anywhere that trusted him completely. Skinner is also what -10?

I know people are tired of firing coaches (I am too), but maybe they haven’t hired the right coach yet (completely possible IMO)

Truth be told, they make it easy on him because this team just plays perimeter hockey when its against VGK making it easy for them to play defense and Hill not having to make tough saves. Look at how badly he had to desperately make a save once the Oilers realize firing a bomb from the point and getting a RNH rebound almost resulted in a goal.

And in this bizzaro reality where the Oilers actually scored some bloody goals people wear hats on their feet and hamburgers eat people.

The Oilers took two periods to actually try and score and by that time Vegas was already settled in. During the game folks were calling the shutout about halfway through the second. Like I said, Vegas was never in danger of losing this game. Too much perimeter play that opposing teams will happily "get dominated by".

I know people are tired of firing coaches (I am too), but maybe they haven’t hired the right coach yet (completely possible IMO)
It's the personnel. They play too fancy for their own good. If they just started playing more straight line, the fancy plays would open themselves up. Yet, they continue to try and force it.

I'd still put him in that top 6 spot with either player. I don't think the coaches is utilizing him properly at all. Its nonsense to put a goal scorer like him in a checking role. Hurts him and hurts the team both ways offensively. Needs to end this shit now. Put him in a top 6 spot against CBJ or Knob can stfu.
It makes sense too. Especially as just a thing to get his game going and get him feeling good. And once he’s rolling you can rethink the lines again.

Arvidsson sucks. Garbage. I don't know why people are so Gung ho over this small past his prime falling all over the ice shooting into goalies chestvidsson.

Our hope is if Hyman gets back to form, Kane comes back looking better than ever and another winger via trade.
