Buy into a defensive system for one.I could see this being true in 2017. What doesn’t McDavid do for his team in the playoffs that Crosby has done?.

Colorado's management runs circles around Edmonton's.
That's literally what they did last year.Buy into a defensive system for one.
That was not a defensive system lol, although as a team they did play pretty effective defense. That's literally what they did last year.
They didn't win because the Oilers have terrible management.
Okay, than seems to be a contradiction but sure. That was not a defensive system lol, although as a team they did play pretty effective defense.
The question was what did Crosby do that 97 didn't in the playoffs. I don't believe that McDavid would buy into the extremely risk-averse system with few offensive opportunities that the 2017 Pens won with, or the trapping style under Therrien that Crosby also has success with even though it wasn't ideal for top offensive players. Usually when teams switch coaches they look for someone who will have the team playing somewhat differently. The fact that the Oilers have played very similarly for all 4 full time head coaches in 97's career suggests that he isn't willing to play any other way.Okay, than seems to be a contradiction but sure.
I remember how "defensive" Colorado was in 2022. But they have better management so ergo they won.
Fits right in with an old boys club who should've been Old Yeller'd in 2006.If culture is a issue for the Oilers then John Tortorella is the coach for you
Golf course? Aren't you a Flames fan? lmao you'll have 20 rounds in after the Flames season ends before the playoffs are over. All that front office cares about is keeping McDavid and Draisaitl happy so the money train keeps rolling and they can keep chucklef***ing it up on the golf course with their boys.

I'll tell you one thing Crosby has never done in playoffs that McDavid has done a couple of times - actually score and not rely on the likes of Max Talbot and Phil Kessel to carry his ass to a cup. I mean, look at Crosby's scoring history in the finals, it's totally incongruent with his regular season performance. Why does Crosby get so much credit for playing against opposing checking lines to a 50/50 stalemate and having his depth win for him, and McDavid/Draisaitl get vilified for absolutely carrying a shallow team to game 7? Makes no sense. The question was what did Crosby do that 97 didn't in the playoffs. I find rebuilding team fans really buy into this shit.I remember when guys like Khabibulin, Ference, and Lucic were supposed to bring so much "culture" to the organization.
That assumes every team has the same odds of the winning the cup.To be fair to Oilers you might start thinking it is a Canadian culture issue
Odds of 7 teams in 30-teams league not to win a trophy in 30 years are:
(29/30)^(7*30) = 0.000911
or
0.0911%![]()
you have nothing to cheer for in a rebuild you end up deluding yourself to cheer for things like that.I find rebuilding team fans really buy into this shit.
That decade of darkness was rough. Arguing about culture and wait for the kids for 10 f***en years.lolyou have nothing to cheer for in a rebuild you end up deluding yourself to cheer for things like that.
The nhl draft is too young, the age needs to be raised to at least 20. Teams are taking too many fliers on kids and trying to project what theyll be in 5-8 years. It needs to be like the NFL. These players need leagues to play in until they are 20-22 and get drafted and make immediate impact on the league and help the team. It would make for a far more interesting league to weed out long shots before the draft.
This is just because the Avs bottom 6 forwards and bottom pair d is a bunch of randos, not less so a sign of injuries to significant pieces
Using my oilers.. apparently we were building the most virtuous team in history. Hall has to go cause of culture. Then we bring in Smith, Perry and kane.lol.I've watched the Flyers spend a decade trying to build via culture, and I've concluded that culture is bullshit. It can't be forced, or "fixed." And you don't have to look around the world of sports for very long to find that it isn't necessary for winning. Lots of teams with objectively wretched culture end up winning.

I been saying that for years. The NHL draft sucks and isn't effective at making rebuilding teams competitive.you have nothing to cheer for in a rebuild you end up deluding yourself to cheer for things like that.

Worse, it leashes a talented player to a loser team for a number of years.I been saying that for years. The NHL draft sucks and isn't effective at making rebuilding teams competitive.
Good where it's at. It is a gamble at 18 or 20. 1/100 both ways. Raise the Draft age, it's possible European Leagues would benefit. Lower the limitations to become a RFA my suggestion. And skid 3 on 3 OT. And loser points.I been saying that for years. The NHL draft sucks and isn't effective at making rebuilding teams competitive.
