Jeez we’re at the point now where we are claiming has beens off of waivers….fantastic!!
It's the "throw shit at the wall and see if it sticks" phase.

One slightly positive spin though is that Brett Kulak has as many goals as...

RNH + Podkolzin + Henrique + Janmark + Ryan COMBINED

...and we are basically at the quarter mark of the season now... so throwing another body in there and trying to find some form of offense likely isn't a terrible move at this stage.

I personally would probably have gone with calling up Philp or Savoie but if Kapanen has any remnants of offense left in his game.. not a bad pick up for free on waivers because you can simply waive him again if he actually looks like 90% of the rest of the stonehands Oilers forwards right now.

Why give one of our prospects like Philp or Savoie a chance when we can just claim a guy who has washed out of 3 teams instead!?

??? Because, again, you can do both. You can both try this guy out to see if there's a fit and see if the kids can do something at the NHL level.

It's not an either or situation.

Well this atleast shows management has a pulse, now wake up and get us a f***ing goalie.
This 1000%

If it wasnt either or they wouldn’t have called up Brown to run 7D and 11F and then claimed another teams scrub before giving our prospects a shot.

You are right, but here's the thing, I'm shocked they even pick this player up. He clearly fits a role and had a reasonable cap hit, but until it was announced, there was no way of knowing if Stan was aware of it.

I already stated this, calling up Josh Brown was idiotic, it wasted cap space and he's f***ing terrible.

It's not an either/or because it doesn't need to be, as far as the management or Stan, that's another story.

Well for one Savoie needs more time in the AHL, Philp probably does too still (missed an entire year of development).

Kapanen is the same age as Foegele and skates as fast so there's at least that.

I like the move because it least puts the room on notice. Guys on waivers are as good as some of the efforts we have been getting.

The organization in the past has been too arrogant to use the waivers wire because they think our players are better than they are. Least its a step.

It also shows management is aware things aren’t great. Right now it’s waivers but if they continue to shit the bed, their going to have to say bye to some friends.

yep--this guy does not bring anything we do not already have

90% of the board - We don't have enough speed! We lost Foegele, Holloway, etc. Need younger players!

Well ok, Kapanen is one of the fastest players in the league and is still in his 20s, lol.

I'm fine with Philp and Savoie coming up but I think it's better for their development that they get as close to a full AHL season under their belts and really get comfortable playing against pro players before being thrown out against the harshest comp. They should be up later in the year.

We don’t have enough functional speed. Someone who can skates fast but otherwise sucks doesn’t do anything for this team.

I mean his career production is similar to Foegele's.

He's had a bad go of it in St. Louis last season for whatever reasons, but even in 22-23 he scored at a 19 goal pace.

Now am I saying he'll be good here, no. But then again, Hyman aside which wingers ever work out here? I'm just saying he is a bit more than just "skate fast guy". He's scored double digit goal rate in like 6 different seasons in a row and he's not like 33, so if he's having a problem it isn't age.

I believe he has played on the PK before also.

If it doesn't work you've lost nothing.

Well, he brings speed at least. And he apparently PKs. Best case scenario, maybe he becomes McLeod lite for us.

Not a centre of course, but maybe he brings speed to the right places if we're lucky. We will see.

He is fast in a straight line unobstructed. There are different kinds of speed. He is not fast getting to an open spot and reading the flow of the play. Most people on this board know I love my Swedes and Fins and this guy is way down the list of player from either country that I have ever been high on

Condors played this afternoon. None of Philp, Savoie or Rodrigue showed up.
Rodrigue played like crap. We need to replace him with someone with real potential.

As far as Kasperi he needs to rethink his game. Fourth line cycle puckgetter is what he is now not a top 6 scorer. Can he modify his game? Likely not as he is quite lazy at times--not the kind of tireless worker you need for the 4th line whose primary duty is wearing out the other teams top lines.

GEEZ... give us at least 3 minutes of collective delusional hope about this guy before that's shattered by his actual inevitable inferior play on the ice... along with scores of others that have come before him...

LOL...you never know maybe this waiver will be the wrench that hits him in the side of the head and makes him realize and he starts working with the coaches. He does have the base skills.

This move is good in principle

1- low cost. Waiver claim. 1 million aav

2- fills a need in terms of skating. If a player's strength matches his team's weakness, the odds of him doing well are very high
