True. But there's not much else Bednar can do given his bottom 3 defensemen.
The New York Islanders are 2nd last in the Eastern Conference, only 2 points up on Buffalo and the Dallas Stars are rumoured to be heavily after Brock Nelson.

If I'm the Avs, I'm calling the Islanders and asking what it'll take to acquire Alexander Romanov at 50%. His current cap hit is only 2.5M, so if you can get that guy here for 1.25M to play 3rd pairing minutes and kill penalties, I would hope the Avs are all over that.

The Avs need SOMETHING done on D. Since Sakic fully took over from Roy and Bednar became coach, this team has been built from the back-end out.

Playing the likes of De Haan, Middleton, Malinski, etc on a nightly basis not only hurts whoever they're out there with, it also kills Makar and Toews because they have to play WAY too much.

CMac's job isn't finished this season if he wants the team to compete. Not even close.

I have zero expectations that Bednar will be fired.

Keep Bednar but show videos of Olli Jokinen shouting at players before games and during intermissions.

There's two fixes, neither of them are a guarantee.

1. Landy comes back and is 80%+ healthy and Nuke stays in the lineup. Those 2 completely change the dynamic of our forwards.

2. As you mentioned, getting another solid defenseman. Kind of wish we were able to nab Fabbro before he hit waivers and Columbus scooped him up.

Problem with that is the cap. Avs have just $3.879M in cap space currently. Wood and Landy together make $9.5M. Even if they send down all their AHL guys, they don't have the cap space to activate those two from LTIR, let alone add someone via trade. They'll have to deal nearly $6M away just to be able to activate Landy and Wood. To add a quality Dman, probably $8+M. That's why Landy isn't gonna play till the playoffs. They can't do it and be cap compliant.

I really dont know, but the more i watch this team, especially the "Core", the more you get the feeling that they are happy and done with this one cup. Mac got his Hart too, Makar his Norris... Rants is playing for his big payday, some dont give a shit, and some players are just no NHL-Material....And some are only looking forward to this "4 nations tournament"....

Voila, and games like this is what you get. Hell, the Rangers-Game was even worse......

This team has no real leader and captain. And on top the coach doesnt catch his players anymore.......

This is a wildcard-team. Nothing more. If they are motivated and have a good day, they can beat everyone and play like a real contender... Too bad these days are becoming a rarity...

Maybe its time to move on..

Not only from players...

The paint is off fellas....

Didn’t think Blackwood had a good game either. Didnt like that screened shot goal, those were the type of goals Fourgiev was giving up

I know Manson deflected the first goal but you’d like a save there too

Avs werent really on the drivers seat at any point of the game. Even leading 3-0 the shots were like 5 to 12.

We finally got scoring, but Oilers just outskated the Avs at our end.

The lineup stuff definately doesnt make the thing easier. Especially when coming up against good teams.

Avs are still like what 7-3-0 the last 10. In order to beat the best you need to have full lineup and help at defence.

Im amazed how they are even at this place with all the injuries and players being out of touch long times.

Another January game. Upwards and onwards...

Also fire Bennet...

I was 75% sure after the 1st period, that it will be a rough game. They got the lead too easily after Nate exposed Skinner and Bouchard in a couple of isolated plays. I really don't have anything else to say, as it was pretty much the same stuff we've seen the past few games. Edmonton was the way better team and that's it.

Honest question:

Do we really believe this team, with all the (injury-) problems will come out of the west with teams like Vegas, Dallas and Edmonton in it?

Or does anyone really believe, we are going to beat one of those 3, or worese, 2 of them in a series?

I simply lack the imagination....Even if we somehow manage to get healthy and Nuke not sniffing something....

I mean, we went for a 2nd line center, gave up Byram, gave Mitts a new contract and he turns out to be another "Johanson.... "

Something feels "off" with this team.....

Shout out to the shitter Oil fans coming in here spam-liking posts. It's a shame that no amount of likes will change the absolute ass-kicking of a sweep the Avs gave you in '22. Was a fun little road bump on our way to the Cup. How'd your last Finals appearance go, btw?
No complaints about this given the amount of laughing reactions we all fired off to the Saint Louis board back in the day.

One of those games where I'm glad I had to go to bed before it ended.
I retired for the "evening" (it was past 5 in the morning) when it was 3-3 after the 2nd. But after that period I'd seen enough hockey. Was actually a little surprised to see that they only lost by a goal.

I appreciate the fact that the Oilers can wreak havoc and create chaos in front of the net. It's not easy to defend against McDavid/Draisaitl. But holy moley, that was some impotent defense on display last night, regardless.

How did this team manage to be so good offensively where they averaged like 4 goals per game with Georgiev in net and now can barely score 2 after having good goaltending. Feels like they did a 180. I guess we can’t get both we either suck offensively with Blackwood in net or be the best offensive team with Georgiev

One thing is for sure, we can't have Josh Manson playing like he's a borderline ECHL d-man. He's had a couple good games but for the most part he's been dreadful in the past 2-3 weeks.

Bednar keeps using Kiviranta to kill penalties and he cannot seem to CLEAR A f***ING PUCK down the ice. He f***ed up in the 1st, it didn't cost us - he did it AGAIN in the 2nd and it did. This guy has spurts where you're like 'wow, we really found something with this guy - we gotta re-sign him' and that lasts a week and then he goes back to being just a guy for the next 4 weeks.

I hope all of you that keep saying "let's just put Rants at center" watched that game closely because that was frikkin' ugly. His line kept getting caved in shift after shift after having 1 good shift early in the first period.

I'd rather peak in April than January. These games ultimately don't matter if we make it to the postseason which I strongly believe we will do. We have had several come from behind wins, last night we had a come from ahead loss. Shit collapse for sure, but the oilers are a good team and sometimes you get your shit pushed in by good teams. We gave up after the third goal and got punished for it. On to the next one.
