The New York Islanders are 2nd last in the Eastern Conference, only 2 points up on Buffalo and the Dallas Stars are rumoured to be heavily after Brock Nelson.True. But there's not much else Bednar can do given his bottom 3 defensemen.
If I'm the Avs, I'm calling the Islanders and asking what it'll take to acquire Alexander Romanov at 50%. His current cap hit is only 2.5M, so if you can get that guy here for 1.25M to play 3rd pairing minutes and kill penalties, I would hope the Avs are all over that.
The Avs need SOMETHING done on D. Since Sakic fully took over from Roy and Bednar became coach, this team has been built from the back-end out.
Playing the likes of De Haan, Middleton, Malinski, etc on a nightly basis not only hurts whoever they're out there with, it also kills Makar and Toews because they have to play WAY too much.
CMac's job isn't finished this season if he wants the team to compete. Not even close.
