Way too soon to consider them "back in the playoffs". In a week's time they could be back in 13th place in the West.

100 percent! I didn't say they were making the playoffs though. I said they are currently in them by points and points percentage. Lots can happen between now and the end of the season (including us going up and not down).

True, but having 2-4 games in hand on everyone competing for a WC spot is nice.

Imagine playing your Sens and my Sabres back to back? Easy 4 points right there 😂
Sounds like the exact type of games the Oilers can blow.

The Sens a couple of years ago were like 14 points out of the playoffs, then went on a miracle run with the hamburgler and qualified for the playoffs.
I looked over the Sens' 2015 season. The biggest gap I could find was 10 points, on Feb 17th.

On January 2nd, 2019, the Blues were out by 11 points (not the 9 points I mistakenly indicated earlier). Let me know if there was a date when the Sens were out of the playoffs by 11+ points, as that would seem to be the all-time record.

How were they so terrible to start the season anyway?

It made no sense to me at the time. I know Campbell sucked and McDavid got hurt, but why were they such a trainwreck? They should make the playoffs pretty comfortably now.
McDavid and Ekholm were playing injured and looked bad.

Both goalies were bad.

Our coach was trying to implement a new defensive system that wasn't taking (which btw the new coach has implemented successfully)

I had nowhere else to post this.. but I just wanted to say... you know who'd love this run? Robin Brownlee... great writer and fan who was around for the decade of darkness. I was sad to read he passed away today.

Btw, Kings lose again in ot With 1 second left! 7 losses in a row now for them.

I hope they make the playoffs because McDavid and Drai should see playoff action. Its good for the league its good for the game to have the best of the best playing post season.
However, not sure if i really like their chances though. For them it always feels like one bad call against them and they implode, one weak goal against and they implode,
Their tougher guys also take dumb penalties when they get pissed off. Nurse and Kane... you get under their skin and they'll be in the box. They'll look really good for 2 or 3 games in a series but they "lose it" really easily and then things snowball quickly

It's a nice turnaround. Curious if they can keep it up?
People shouldn't be so surprised, they had a slow start but still have an elite team that can go places if they get any goaltending.

McDavid hurt
Ekholm hurt
Slow start for Drai
Both goalies played terrible
The entire D core played like they were not good enough for the echl
Lost confidence
And they seemed to get a lot of bad bounces on top of all this

McDavid will have another Hart by the end of the year.

To anyone doubting his ability or how bad the Oilers are without him, just look at their play when he was injured and playing at 50%.

Him and to a slightly lesser extent Drasaitl are a two man team carrying around bags of garbage with a few cardboard boxes (Kane, Hyman)
