I would like to think this would end the 'one man team' and 'power play merchants' stuff'

However!

I fear this will just open up a new stream of McD sucks and isn't a top 10 player instead. Generational my ass.lol

McDavid not *having* to be superhuman just so we can be competitive in games is such a good thing for us. Save as much energy as he can for a deep run.

I couldn't agree more! It's been great. Especially seeing guys like Gagner, Foeg and McLeod winning close games for us recently.

I don't know if its just a slump or teams getting up to play the Oilers during this win streak, but I've never seen so many sticks get in lanes on McDavid cross ice passes before. Normally he threads passes through with ease but for some reason they're just constantly not converting lately.

Either way a good sign for the team that they're winning regardless. Dominant McDavid will return at some point.

Still think he's got some long term or chronic issue.

Too predictable lately. He’s basically been allergic to shooting and teams know he’s passing 9 times outta 10. lol

Weirdly I don't remember the Columbus 16 game win streak and Pittsburgh 15 game win streak that much. The Red Wings 23 game home winning streak felt like a bigger deal for some reason.

I noticed they did not give up more than 3 goals this entire streak once and haven't given up more than 2 in the last 13. What changed defense, goaltending, or both?

A pretty solid combination of both, defence in particular looks way more structured under the new coaching staff

Coach successfully implemented zone defense. Has everyone dialed in and both goalies are playing confident. Skinner is actually 3 wins from tying the longest ever goalie win streak.

If I remember correct Pittsburgh did it in a year where both Crosby and Malkin were hurt. At least malkin for part of it but I’m pretty sure Crosby was out the whole time. Pens fans correct me if I’m wrong.

The craziest shit is they've gone from looking the one of the worst defensive teams in the league in the first 10 games, and even including those, they are now the 7th best Goals Against (per game) in the league. That's a wild turn around.

Both. Woodcroft tried to make a change to the system and the Oilers looked like a bantam team and confused. They were still generating a lot of scoring chances, but were giving up about 4 goals a game their first 12 games I think?

New coach is much more familiar with zone D and the few games they did need it, the goalies have made some big saves to keep a couple games tied.

PK has been like #1 or close since the coaching change. It was down near the last with Woodcroft. This coach is using THREE pairs of PKers. Woody used a combined 23sh different pairs.

Top guys are all backchecking consistently. You can see it. They rarely cheat for offense. Whole team has a better commitment to team defense.

Besides tonight, the new coach keeps 29/97 split. They usually play together right at the end of a PK.
