Oilers are good at hockey again: Back in the plofs

To reach historical levels of success you need things to go right in nearly all areas. Goaltending included. For reference, it’s like the Leafs cup drought but the exact opposite in that that’s historical levels of failure.

What historical levels of success have the Oilers achieved? Didn't New Jersey win 13 games in a row last year? The Panthers did it the season before that.

Only Montreal has done this out of all Canadian franchises?

Let's not pretend you're not just sour, because this is pretty impressive. 20 - 3 in their last 23 games.

Just passed LA in points percentage!

It'd be nice to get a bit of a cushion before the inevitable come back to earth.

Winning close games
Secondary scoring
D is killing it
Skinner is killing it

WTF is happening?lol
Thank you for creating this thread after mine got locked with the same title

We've seen this 'jump' how many times already now? Woodcroft was a Jack Adams level coach until he wasn't. Connor and Leon will get bored as they usually do (historically speaking) and we'll find ourselves back at square one before you know it.

There really is no "historical" level of success. The team is just on a nice run midway through the season. You could argue they are on a historical win streak for Canadian franchises though

Oilers are Leafs west. Show what you can do in the playoffs and then we'll talk.
Well They made the WCF and then lost in the second round last season. Not the success they wanted obviously but they are showing some good signs which can only help moving forward. People often talk about having to lose before you can win. Colorado knew that pain for some years in the playoffs before winning 2 years ago and Vegas as well made the finals and lost before winning it all.

This team (at least currently) is showing real maturity and poise by sticking to their game and not panicking no matter the score. Something that has not really been a thing with this team. In the past they would have to outscore their many mistakes and leads never felt safe. That is what you are talking about with them being the "Leafs of the West". That hasn't been the case since Nobblauch took over.

Tonight for example they went down 2, scored 3 straight and then never looked back shutting Seattle down. Don't even think the Kraken got a shot in the final 8 minutes of the game. You have to hope that means something moving forward. IE good habits, playing the right way etc.

when the oilers are losing, no one hates the oilers more than oilers fans

Canes fans are something else.
The trade board had a thread where someone suggested Slavin for McDavid, a few of them said no on the Canes side.
Then they proceeded to get dragged through the mud for 20 pages till the mods shut the thread down and deleted it.

Oh wait this is a Pens fan... And his takes might just be jokes lol

Oilers have had a very favorable schedule so far but that will end after the all star break. Eight back to back games coming up. Look what happened to the Kings. Oilers will fade down the stretch.

Where do you guys get this stuff? Everywhere I've looked after this post shows the Oilers having a relatively hard schedule up till now and a relatively easy schedule going forward.

The Oilers have a relatively high amount of games in a relatively short period of time I suppose, but travel is travel. That's just kind of the way it goes.

Stuart Skinner having a .951 save percentage in January has a lot to do with their streak

Yeah it does have a lot to do with it.....and the .850 from Oct through November had a lot to due with their terrible record during that stretch.

I believe we just went over .900 on the year so nothing outstanding.

Every team at the top of the league right now has the best goaltending in the league. It is not rocket science, you need good goaltending to win......as I am sure you are well aware as a Leaf's fan.

Give Holland credit, hiring Kris Knoblach was a good move and is paying off. He is a fantastic coach, I always felt he should have been head coach in Philly instead of being the assistant behind Hakstol.

They've played half the season, I think attributing it to an easy schedule is pretty stupid.

Besides, back-to-backs aren't as big of a deal as you wish they were. Oilers are 2-0 on the second night of a back-to-back. For a larger sample size, last season they were 6-4.

They are less likely to fade than your favourite team.
