I know, me too, but we've been looking for Bjugstad for a long time.

Kesselring was so underrated and was developing so well. It killed me at the time to let him go but Bjugstad was exactly what this team needed at under a million.

I liked Kesselring, but with Bouchard on the team, Wanner turning pro next season, and even Kemp as another giant RHD in the AHL (whom I think has more to show). the Oil are surprisingly well stocked at RD with guys that bring similar attributes.

Bjugstad on the other hand is an absolute unicorn in the Oilers' system. And although he's not a guy to anchor the 3rd line defensively, or be a proper top 6 forward, he's still an outstanding complementary piece to both guys that are super speedy or far more physical due to his solid hockey IQ.
He's a 6'6 Derek Ryan. and I have all the time in the world for that.

On that note, I'm not surprised that he fits like a glove with Nuge and Hyman. The 3 of them make for a fantastic two-way line similar (but better) to the Hyman-RNH-Ryan trio Woody ran with when he first took over.

I really hope we can sign him and Janmark. Our bottom 6 finally looks good. Kostin I think is an RFA

Yep. Imo those two plus Ryan form the defensive core of the bottom 6, and allow Foegele, Kostin and others to run around and play their game without getting lit up line a Christmas tree, or having their games neutered due to having to play "safe" defence.

I can see McLeod growing into Janmark's defensive minutes, but I think he ends up in the top 6 as a cheap option for there, so you'll still need one more dependable defensive forward for the 3rd line (who's cheap, otherwise you'd just keep Yams). That, or you grab a cheap middle six option at the end of summer (like Rodrigues this year) to play in the top 6, and serve as a body for McLeod, Holloway, and/or Lavoie to eventually beat out.

Swriously. Even of Campbell is a good guy, they have to get rid of his contract. There are just to many musts to resign ; Bjugstad, McLeod, Kostin, Bouchard.
It wouldnt surprise me if McLeods cobtract would end up over 2 millions.

You should also resign Ryan because his long time with the team, politeness, and prob. Very cheap. Janmark is not a must, but a nice depth piece.

Trade Campbell 1 m retained. Sign Reimer as a backup for 2 millions.
Keep D intact. Next year Lavoie and Holloway comes in.

Skinner
Reimer

Ekholm Bouch
Nurse Ceci
Kulak VD
Broberg

Kane Nuge Hyman
Nuge Leon Fogele
McLeod Bjugstad Lavoie
Holloway Ryan Kostin
Janmark
New depth guy

I miss Kesselring
So you miss a guy, who up till this year was projected to be a 5/6 D man. On D we have Ekholm, Bouchard, Nurse, Ceci and and Kulak. We are in win now mode and this is the kind of deal you make. If Broberg can every get his head out of his ass, our top 6 are locked in for the next couple of seasons.

The key is not overpaying! Paying Ryan McLeod 2M is a no go. His comparable is his brother in NJD ,a year older, similar production and similar role gets $975000. Kostin one-way at $900k., Philp and Lavoie league minimum 2way. Ryan resigned for less than current. If you accomplish this you can start talking about retaining ONE of Bugstad, Janmark,Foegele or Yamamoto.

Or buy out / trade Campbell and trade one of Yamamoto and Fogele.
Trade Campbell is favourable.

Myou better keep your draftpick like McLeod. Just get rid of Campbell, Yamamoto and Fogele if it doesnt cut. Defensivw forwards are cheap in NHL.
McLeod, Janmark, Ryan, Kostin are all resigns under 2m. So they should be resigned.
Bjugstad is importamt to keep

Toronto dumped him for a reason

Not sure I'm bothering as you'll just ignore this reply but you're absolutely wrong. They wanted to keep him but offered low since they didn't have the cap to pay him what he was expecting to get in free agency. After they missed out on Husso and before trading for Murray, it was reported they re-engaged discussions but Campbell was determined to move on and get paid what he felt he deserved

It's not like Dubas is some goalie savant anyhow, so who cares? Goaltending is still their biggest question-mark for the rest of the playoffs.

And there is a reason why they offered him BACKUP money.

When we signed him I was happy
